Job overview

Excellent opportunity to join an ambitious school in Wandsworth.

Ark Putney Academy opened in September 2012 as part of the Ark network, as a mixed, non-selective new 11-18 academy. It is a mixed school with 465 students, ranging from year 7 through to a very successful sixth form. Having been recognised in 2011 by the DfE as one of the most improved schools in the country, Ark Putney Academy was judged by Ofsted, in March 2013, to be a good school in all aspects of its work.

We are now looking for an Assistant Head who will lead on the pastoral support for ensuring the quality of teaching and learning, alongside leading on the development of community cohesion and the extra-curricular provision.

This role offers a challenging but exciting opportunity for a dedicated and ambitious individual to develop as a leader and a rapid and significant impact to the outcomes for our pupils.

We offer attractive pay and conditions as well as high quality career and professional development (CPD) and opportunities for career progression. All staff also have a range of benefits including reduced gym membership and large retail discounts. This is an excellent opportunity for a middle leader looking to move to an SLT position.

To apply, please complete the online application form at http://arkputneyacademy.org/vacancies, by 11am on Friday 1 May 2015. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Interviews will take place at the academy on Wednesday 6 May.

Values and vision

At Ark Putney we have a holistic view of educating young people. Our mission statement is;

Preparing every student to be a pillar of any community

By this we mean that we are focusing on developing students to be the very best they can be in all aspects of their lives  not only through academic progress but also by developing the soft skills that will enable students to be successful in the world such as good manners and the ability to speak confidently combined with the desire to participate through sport, the arts and contributing to charity and community projects.

This can be illustrated by our core purpose, which is to provide students with:

  • An appreciation and curiosity for life and learning
  • The courage and ambition  to unlock and fulfil their potential
  • A desire to contribute to society in a positive way
  • A sense of self –awareness, combined with the integrity  to be compassionate towards others

The main drivers for this are our Six Pillars as listed below. These permeate academy life and can be seen in everything that we do, think and say at APA. They are also a focus of our assemblies, reflections and tutorial activities. They help to guide us in how we behave, what we do and what kind of people we want to be:

  • Effort
  • Team work
  • Community
  • Enthusiasm
  • Commitment
  • Independence

In March 2017, Ofsted rated the academy as good in every category and highlighted our students’ progress and achievement at GCSE and in sixth form. The full report can be read here.
