The Specialist Supported Learning Department provides a wide range of support, strategies and guidance for learners up to the age of 25. These learners have been assessed as having a learning difficulty and/or disability up to age 25, or are 25+ learners who require high levels of support. Specialist teams carry out a thorough, rigorous and comprehensive assessment process, in order to implement the most appropriate learning support for students during their programme of study. These teams work with students across eighteen campuses, according to the specific needs of individual learners, to empower them to fully access their chosen curriculum.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Providing outstanding educational leadership in the development, planning, delivery and monitoring of the curriculum area.
  • Responsibility for the management team and resources within the department.
  • Ensuring outstanding student experience.
  • Being an active member of the College’s Senior Leadership Team.
  • Working closely with other Assistant Principals and the Principalship to deliver the College’s strategy and objectives.
  • Ensuring a range of support methodologies with students, to promote independence for learners wherever possible.

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess a proven track record of developing a supported learning educational environment within an exceptional FE institution.
  • Have a profound understanding of the challenges facing the sector, as well as a clear view on how to develop a College capable of matching future demands.
  • Be an innovative leader with a passion for quality and service excellence, who can demonstrate the capacity to influence, inform and raise the bar so that others will follow.
  • Have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, being able to engage and influence at all levels across a diverse organisation to solve complex strategic challenges through tangible solutions.

Located in the city of the same name, The Manchester College is a large further education college. Owing to its size, Manchester College is able to offer a huge range of courses at many different academic levels. This includes GCSEs for school leavers looking to do retakes, all the way up to full BA and BSc degrees. Foundation Degrees are also offered, along with short courses. A large number of part-time learners attend the college, and as such these courses are designed to be a flexible as possible in order to be accessible to adults who intend to work while studying.
