JOB PURPOSE

The role is primarily focused on strategically leading across the Secondary phase of the Academy, to ensure quality first teaching and the fostering of a fully inclusive learning culture and ethos that allows all students to make better than expected progress.  

We are looking to recruit a high calibre leader that can complement our existing team and therefore, roles and responsibilities maybe subject to change based on the current strengths of the team and those of the successful candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the academy in achieving its overall vision and strategic intentions and to contribute to the achievement of relevant targets as set out in the academy’s improvement plan and self-evaluation form
  • Play a lead role in developing key policies and practices that support the Academy’s overall aims, vision and values.
  • To monitor the impact of relevant policies and practices.
  • Create a culture of high aspirations.
  • Lead and manage staff, including but not limited to overseeing recruitment, performance and professional development, duties.
  • Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources, including but not limited to budget planning, recruitment and retention of staff, safeguarding of students ensuring compliance with ADEK and BSO expectations. 
  • Lead on the marketing of key aspects of the Academy, raise the profile of the Academy, increase student numbers and ensure positive feedback from stakeholders. 
  • To assist the Secondary Principal and Principal in shaping the direction of the Academy and setting high expectations at all times.
  • To deputise in the absence of the Secondary Principal or as required. 
  • To undertake any additional responsibilities as delegated by the Secondary Principal or Principal. 
  • To take responsibility for own ongoing professional development and performance in line with key performance indicators. 

Strategic Direction:

  • To lead on and develop the vision and culture across the secondary phase, which falls in line with whole Academy expectations.
  • To ensure the Academy policies promotes good relationships and it complements the intended culture.
  • To lead on key performance standards as directed, ensuring all students thrive. To lead on key areas of the SEF and SDP ensuring key improvement priorities are identified and actioned based on current research and evidence.
  • To lead and oversee the MER and quality assurance processes and present an accurate and coherent account of the Academy’s performance in relation to key performance standards to a range of audiences including governors and parents
  • To effectively lead the Academy through external review and inspection in key performance standards. 
  • To promote positive relationships within and outside the Academy to ensure a cohesive school community, including but not limited to developing parent partnerships, working with external agencies or businesses. 
  • To set the strategic direction for Middle Leaders to ensure all students are happy and thrive within the Academy. 
  • To work with the senior leadership team to provide quality provision that supports the whole child and ensures outstanding progress and attainment for all. 
  • To provide strategic direction and line manage agreed middle leaders to ensure that the academy exceeds the expectations of students, parents, and other stakeholders.

Culture for Learning:

  • To work with all stakeholders to set the vision and tone for learning in line with the Academy’s overall vision.  
  • To lead on key policies, as designated, to ensure it meets the needs of the Academy.
  • To lead on the AI and Innovation strategy, and develop innovative teaching and learning strategies, the use of educational technology and digital literacy.
  • Support the development of educational research.
  • To lead on the EAL strategy and develop language and literacy across the secondary phase.
  • To ensure high expectations for all staff in relation to the culture for learning and behaviour and provide CPD as required.
  • To quality assure provision and undertake regular learning walks and drop-ins as well as formal observations to ensure high standards across the Academy.
  • To lead on intervention and the use of data to support learning, including the presentation and use of internal and external data, ensuring effective systems and processes are in place, holding staff accountable at all levels.
  • To further develop a coaching ethos as part enhancing staff performance

Leading and managing staff:

  • To coach and mentor teachers and leaders to significantly improve their professional performance and practice. 
  • To lead on Bluesky to support professional development. 
  • To lead on the induction and probation of new staff to the Academy ensuring high quality information and services are provided in a timely manner.
  • To lead on all aspects of the AYA Teacher Training Programme and CPD ensuring appropriate policies are in place, monitored, evaluated and updated annually. 
  • To recruit and select high calibre teaching and support staff.

Managing Resources:

  • To lead on school calendar and events, holding the school overview.
  • To lead on the local and international trips strategy. 
  • To support the development of a secondary school recognition and rewards policy for staff.
  • To lead on a social media strategy to promote key successes of the academy. 
  • Contribute to production of an annual secondary budget in line with strategic & operational development targets
  • Oversee the management of resources with middle leaders, including but not limited to subscriptions, teaching and learning resources and online platforms.

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or BSc/BA degree with PGCE or equivalent is essential.
  • Masters or NPQSL desirable 
  • At least 6 years teaching experience, including 4 consecutive years of performance exceeding standards and expectations as evidenced by performance appraisal.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a Middle Leadership role. 
  • Experience of leading school initiatives that have led to significant improvement in standards and achievement. 
  • A high level of professionalism and consideration of the well-being of children.
