We are seeking to appoint an Associate Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for English to join our ambitious Senior Leadership Team.

We are looking for a leader with a proven track record of successful middle leadership and the ambition to take the next step into senior leadership. 

This role will involve:

  • Working with the Deputy Curriculum Leader of English to ensure that the English curriculum is an ambitious, well sequenced and knowledge rich curriculum that enables students to achieve great outcomes
  • Working with the Deputy Curriculum Leader and English Lead Practitioner to ensure that the quality of curriculum implementation is consistent across the English department
  • To ensure that assessment of the curriculum is used to inform responsive and adaptive teaching
  • Working with the Senior Leadership team to drive school improvement with a specific focus on developing literacy across the curriculum

About St Cuthbert Mayne School

St Cuthbert Mayne School is a Joint Roman Catholic & Church of England School that welcomes all students from across Torbay and South Devon, regardless of their faith background. Our school community is made up of students and staff from Christian and non-Christian backgrounds, who are respectful of our Christian ethos.


There are currently over 1000 students on roll and the school is growing in size year on year. The teaching accommodation is of mixed age but well-resourced and maintained. Over recent years there has been some significant capital investment made to improve the school accommodation. The third and final project is due to be completed by the end of February 2024.
