Job overview

Do you want to help make Scotland the best place to learn?

We believe that children in Scotland should progress in one of the most effective education systems in the world, renowned for the ability of national and local partners to work flexibly together to achieve high-quality and equitable outcomes for all children. To help ensure every child is encouraged to be the best they can be, we are implementing the Scottish Attainment Challenge aimed at raising attainment and closing the equity gap.

To help us drive our ambition we are creating a new team of Attainment Advisors who will work collaboratively alongside local authority staff to support raising attainment with a particular focus on literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing. There will be a strong focus on improving educational outcomes for children and young people from the most disadvantaged social backgrounds in order to close the attainment gap that currently exists across the country.

This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated senior leaders with a proven track record in leading improvement in education who have the ability to collaborate to support local improvement. Successful candidates will become part of a team working across all local authorities in Scotland.

We are offering these positions as secondments on either full-time or part-time basis for 23 months. We will also consider appointing Attainment Advisors for a specified number of days allocated over a 12 month period.

To enable you to carry out this role, we will provide you with an extensive professional learning programme in evidenced-based approaches for driving local improvement.

You will be based in a locality working collaboratively alongside local authority staff and partners on agreed priorities to support raising attainment in schools.

As an Attainment Advisor you will have access to national and international knowledge and research and be able to draw upon this to support improvement at a local level. In return, you will help inform our national work to promote innovation and spread good practice across Scotland by sharing evidence and experience of local improvement activities in your area.

Education Scotland is Scotland's national improvement agency for education. Our role is to promote innovation and change in the education system, from the early years to adult learning and we are committed to embedding our values of excellence, creativity, integrity and respect in everything we do.

Transforming Lives Through Learning

Education Scotland was created on 1st July 2011, bringing together the work of Learning and Teaching Scotland, Her
Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education for Scotland, the National CPD team and the Scottish Government’s Positive Behaviour Team. It was established as the Scottish Government’s integrated national development and improvement agency for education, providing support and challenge right through from the early years to adult learning.

Working with the education community, Education Scotland aims to allow each learner and practitioner within Scotland to recognise their full potential by giving them the tools to allow them to grow and develop as individuals throughout their journey within education and beyond.

Education Scotland is here to make an impact; to support learning and teaching throughout the country and develop the curriculum for education to enable us, as a nation, to transform lives through learning.

With several offices based around Scotland, the organisation is made up of professionals with a passion for making a difference and shaping the future of Education; many of whom are seconded directly from schools and other partner organisations. Secondees who work as part of the team joined Education Scotland to help us make a difference and shape the future of learning and teaching.

At Education Scotland we believe it's people who make a difference and your contribution would be welcomed.
