The Governing Body is seeking to appoint a Business Director to take a full part in the shared leadership and management of the Academy in the first instance, with a view to playing a strategic role in the development of a multi-academy trust.

We are:

  • A large 11-16 mixed academy, located near the centre of the historic shipbuilding town of Barrow in Furness and close to the southern boundary of the Lake District National Park;
  • An academy with a truly comprehensive intake, playing a key role in our local community and a strong foundation of moral purpose;
  • An academy that has at its heart a sense of ambition and determination to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.

You will:

  • Have professional qualifications in accountancy, financial management or academy business management, or be a graduate or equivalent (at least Level 6).
  • Be a member of the Academy Senior Leadership Team, working with the Headteacher, Governing Body and sponsor, to contribute to the overall strategic leadership and management of the Academy, and its pursuit of excellence in relation to the educational standards enjoyed by all our students.
  • You will work with the Headteacher to identify the best practice available and use this to create an outward looking academy culture which promotes in staff and students an ethos of achievement and a desire for excellence, where all stakeholders contribute in positive ways to the Academy and wider community.
  • You will support the Headteacher in the effective leadership and management of both the teaching and associate staff.
  • You will provide effective strategic and commercial leadership and management of the academy’s finances, premises, facilities and support services, including innovation.
  • You will provide the professional leadership and management of all non-classroom based support staff in the academy.
  • You will oversee day to day human resource and personnel issues, and self-refer to the academy’s legal advisers as and when appropriate.
  • You will have an additional reporting line to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees in the role of Chief Financial Officer to the Furness Academy’s Trust.

Furness Academy opened its new building in September 2013 offering £22million worth of state of the art facilities.
