Casual Hockey Coach

We welcome applications for this support post to commence early September 2024.

The Role

The successful candidate will become part of a thriving, lively and supportive department. The

department comprises 14 staff members, some of which are part time. The department is accessed by students from across college and serves the whole college community.

Since the Sports Academies were first established in 1999, there have been notable successes. The Boys Football Academy have been national champions twice, the Netball Academy have won numerous national competitions including the English National Schools three years in a row. The Basketball Academy have also been national finalists.

We have also had notable success in the sport of Hockey. We have achieved continuous regional success and reached AOC National Finals for the last 3 years for Mixed Hockey. We also enter and play in both womens’ and mens’ regional tournaments and have been national cup finalists in all three in recent years.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include –

  • To take the Hockey teams on Wednesday afternoons and at other times
  • To take teams to AOC Sports events
  • To arrange and confirm fixtures
  • To book transport and referees for teams
  • To organise payment for the referees.

The Successful Candidate

Cardinal Newman College is a wonderful place to work, and this is an exciting opportunity for a enthusiastic and experienced candidate to join our friendly and well established Sports department.

The Sports department is looking for someone who has a Level 2 Coaching Qualification (or must obtain following appointment), a minimum of 2 years’ experience of Hockey coaching and has good communication skills.

You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.

Terms and Conditions

Hours: An average of 3 hours per week from early September to early May. Wednesday 13.00pm – 16.00pm The hours will vary dependent upon home and away fixtures.

Salary: £22 per hour plus holiday pay. Salary is paid on a claim basis for hours worked
