Job overview

Our School

Torquay Girls’ Grammar School is a girls’ 11 to 18 selective Single Academy Trust (SAT) in Torquay, Devon.

Our status as a SAT means that we have the freedom to implement a curriculum intent which focusses on the whole child: to equip students for a future in which they have the academic qualifications, character skills and self-esteem to make decisions that lead to long, happy and content lives.

Our school is founded on our core values which apply to our whole community: equality; open minded; kindness; collaboration; and well-being.

In November 2023, we achieved Ofsted 'Outstanding' and we are also 2nd in Devon and 6th in the South West for academic results.

The school has a long history of success with committed students, staff and trustees. If you were to join us, you would become part of an outstanding school which values every individual within our school community.

The Role

An exciting opportunity is available to join our team as Chemistry Technician who will provide timely and effective technician support to the department. The post holder will be an integral part of the Chemistry, and wider Science department. We recognise that working in a Chemistry department is specialised and we would welcome applications from those with a strong background in Chemistry or other sciences, however, we are equally keen to receive applications from people who are looking for a new challenge and a possible career change as training and support will be provided.

This a permanent role, with flexibility in the number and time of hours worked, from 27.5 hours per week to 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role is 39 weeks per year (term time plus INSET days). The hours will be agreed with the successful candidate. The start date for this role is as soon as possible.

The salary for this role is Grade D pro rata. The starting salary would be £15,023 for 27.5 hours per week; £19,120 for 35 hours per week.

If you would like to arrange a visit to the school, please contact Sarah Forster, Headteacher, via Louise Rumbelow, Headteacher's PA (lrumbelow@tggsacademy.org) or if you have any questions in relation to the role or the recruitment process, please contact Abigail Henwood, HR Manager (personnel@tggsacademy.org).
