Job Description

Childcare Practitioners for the Breakfast Cafés are responsible for preparation of continental style breakfast for children attending school.  In some schools, parents also access the Breakfast Café.

In addition Childcare Practitioners will organise (and occasionally take part in) play and leisure activities for children and young people aged between 5 and 12 years.

The Council applies the Scottish Local Government Living Wage to this post.

Requirements

You will normally be based in a single location but may be required to cover at other clubs in the area or to relocate to meet the needs of the Service.

Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups  (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for preparation and service of breakfast for all children attending the Breakfast Café. You will also be responsible for supervision of children during the Café opening times and clearing up after service.

There may be times when you have to deal sensitively and appropriately with children and young people who may display challenging behaviour.

The Individual

You will have experience of working with children aged 4 to 14 years in a childcare setting and you must be eligible to register with SSSC as a Practitioner and either hold an SVQ Level 3 in Play Work (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards qualifications that will help you maintain your registration.
