Class Teacher – Additional Support Needs class for children with complex needs
14 hours per week (Monday and Tuesday)
Temporary maternity cover up to 1 year

This is an exciting opportunity to join the staff team at Glaitness School. Glaitness School is a mainstream primary with additional resourcing to support pupils with a wide variety of learning needs. We require an enthusiastic and independent person who would enjoy being part of an inclusive, whole-school team. Within the additional support needs provision, we provide significant and creative adaptation to the curriculum and learning experiences for children and young people who have moderate to severe and complex needs. Our children and young people are also very well supported by experienced and dedicated Support for Learning Assistants.

This post involves working as part of a team within a supported class of currently 2 pupils. (although this may change depending on the needs of children across the local authority) There is a wide age range between the 2 pupils. The learning environment is a play based, multi-sensory one within a very child centred approach to meeting the individual needs of the pupils. There are implications for some health care needs as part of this post also. Some of our learning experiences for children take place out with the school environment. Close partnership working with parents/carers and partners is essential.

Prospective applicants are invited to discuss the posts by contacting the Head Teacher, Morag Miller on 01856 873648 or email: morag.miller@glow.orkneyschools.org.uk

The salary applicable is based on the SNCT Salary Tables plus Distant Islands Allowance.

You must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held during week commencing 27 April 2015.
Closing date: Sunday 5 April 2015

About Glaitness Primary School

Glaitness School is one of two primary schools situated in the town of Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands.  We offer provision for children aged 4-12 who live in the north-west sector of the town and the adjacent rural area.

We also provide additional support for pupils from any area in Orkney whose needs cannot be fully met within their own local school.  Having once been two separate schools, we now have one fully inclusive school, extensively refurbished and adapted in order to meet the needs of all pupils.
