We are seeking a suitability qualified and experienced teacher to join our team providing education to approximately 38 children aged from 6 – 19 with severe, complex and moderate learning difficulties and disabilities, the majority of whom are on the autistic spectrum. You’ll have a B.Ed, or degree plus a PGCE and have experience, enthusiasm and a keen interest in the SEN education sector.

You will be a class teacher in our lower school, incorporating students ranging from KS1 – 4, for a group of approximately 6 students and leading a staff team made up of Teaching Assistants and additional support assistants. In return you’ll have opportunity to access specialist training and build upon your professional skills, becoming a strong and flexible practitioner to meet the varying needs of our students.

The Sheiling School’s current learners are studying at P level 3 – NC level 2. A variety of nationally accredited qualifications are offered including ASDAN and Equals. The Sheiling School specialises in the development of communication skills, cognitive skills, social skills, independence skills, functional skills and practical skills, which are developed through a variety of activities and subjects.

We have a large beautiful site with lots of open, green spaces and woodland that provides a peaceful, therapeutic setting and a dynamic teaching environment. Within the 50 acres are classrooms, student accommodation (large, spacious houses), a purpose built therapy building, a multipurpose hall (with a large stage for performances), a gymnasium, a shallow heated indoor swimming pool, a variety of indoor and outdoor workshops and a large kitchen garden which provide ample opportunity for creative, experiential learning.

At The Sheiling and in collaboration with our residential care colleagues and extensive therapy team, we aim to provide holistic, innovative and effective care and education to match the interests, skills and aspirations of our students and meet their individual needs.

We welcome applications from practicing teachers and suitably experienced NQT’s.
