Job overview

An exciting opportunity to be part of something special!

If you are ambitious and talented, possess a real flair for teaching and learning and are passionate about delivering Quality First Teaching then this is the job for you!

The Governors, Staff and Children of this friendly and welcoming junior school are seeking to appoint an experienced and well-motivated primary classroom teacher to join our hard-working and supportive school team to teach in Key Stage Two and lead English or Mathematics across the whole school. Due to the nature of this position, it is not suitable for NQTs.

This is a very exciting time for our school as we are due to convert to an academy and also join Waterton Academy Trust (Wakefield’s first purely-primary-phase academy trust) in June of this year.  As a newly formed organisation - consisting of infant, junior and primary schools - Waterton Academy Trust’s main aim is to ensure all children receive the education that they deserve, and Normanton Junior School is very excited at the prospect of being part of this.

Our School is a three-form entry junior school with a capacity for 90 pupils in each year group. We currently have approximately 310 pupils aged 7-11 and our numbers are quickly rising!

We offer excellent facilities:  a large building, complete with purpose built gym, stage and hall; as well as two ICT suites; several spacious shared working areas;  a library; well-equipped classrooms,  and well maintained outdoor play areas including a large field to enable our children to explore, develop and nurture their talents and interests as they progress through our school.

The successful candidate will:

  • be enthusiastic, highly motivated and hardworking
  • be an excellent classroom practitioner who is inspirational in their teaching and involves the children as active learners
  • be experienced at teaching in Key Stage 2
  • have high expectations and show commitment to raising standards
  • have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to working as part of a team
  • be able to lead either English or Mathematics across the whole school

All applicants must be happy to play a full part in the life of our school

In return, we can offer: -

  • a friendly, welcoming school
  • a supportive and forward thinking leadership team
  • a great team of dedicated and committed staff
  • well behaved children who enjoy learning
  • a commitment to your professional development and an exciting opportunity to work within a multi-academy trust
  • valuable experience for someone seeking to aspire to a senior leadership position in the future

This is a permanent position.

A TLR will be awarded for leadership of EITHER Literacy or Maths. In your application please demonstrate your knowledge and experience in your preferred area of responsibility.
