Great Hockham Primary School is a small, village school, set in between Thetford and Watton. The school has 4 classes catering for all children, whatever their needs, abilities and background, aged from 3 to 11. The local community are very much involved with the school, supporting us in many ways. We are proud to be a member of the Sapientia Education Trust.
We have an active and successful Friends of the School Association, which organises a variety of social and fund raising events during the year. We never refuse an offer of help and are most grateful for all the practical help we receive from parents.
We are proud to work towards our school vision of Creative, Caring, Daring. We welcome contributions from people who are linked to our school. These are displayed in our entrance hall.
School Vision
Creative, Caring, Daring.
I am delighted to be able to unveil our new vision. Following a lengthy and thought provoking process which involved a wide range of children and adults from the whole school community we have chosen three bold words to form our vision.
Creative. We strive to be creative in everything we do. Whilst we rely on trusted and effective approaches to teaching and learning, we also look to creative and unusual ways of getting around challenges. We seek to use interesting and unusual approaches to learning and problem solving. We love using our imaginations to move ourselves forward. When we think of our school, we think of creative minds coming together to solve problems.
Caring. Our day to day philosophy, our toolkit for sustained emotional well being is packed with a caring approach. Sharing, support, nurture, friendship, kindness and fun. When we think of our school, we think of a caring community.
Daring. We take calculated risks. We go outside more. We take our learning to different places. We aim to stretch our own learning and understanding by daring to do that little bit more. We understand that we achieve more by taking that extra step. When we think of our school, we think of a learning community that pushes itself further and further in order to achieve.
About our School
As Headteacher, I am immensely proud of Great Hockham school. Our approach to the curriculum means that our pupils enjoy learning, which is attributable to the dedication and teamwork of the Staff, Governors and Friends of the School, as well as the very valued support of the parents and local community.
We welcome feedback, and pupil, parent and stakeholder views are actively sought.
The school is a very important part of the community and we encourage the surrounding villages to be as involved with us, and vice versa, whenever possible. The school governors play a very active role in the overall school improvement and development, as well as being a critical friend when needed.
Communication is high on our priority list, so we regularly update our website, produce newsletters and text parents with useful update information when required. We also have a school FaceBook page which is updated frequently.
Mrs. Jones is our School Administrator. She is totally wonderful, and works very hard juggling many jobs. She does go off site for a lunch break, so the telephone is unmanned between 12-1pm. However, the answerphone is on and we respond to messages as soon as possible.
Each year we look at areas that need more direct focus. This School Improvement and Development Plan is used by all stakeholders to ensure we are all pulling in the same direction to ensure that our children make progress and enjoy the very best learning experiences.
