Job overview

We are seeking an inspirational and dynamic Curriculum Leader of Music to make a significant contribution across both Hexham Middle School and Queen Elizabeth High School. We are looking for a driven, enthusiastic and creative professional who places pupil success at the heart of what they do. The Curriculum Leader of Music is responsible for shaping our pupils to be respectful young people who have a strong engagement in their music learning and who have high aspirations for themselves and their futures. This is a very exciting opportunity to lead music provision across the trust and to drive forward an engaging, progressive curriculum and extra-curricular journey from Year 5 to Year 13.

Hadrian Learning Trust comprises two co-located schools set in the historical market town of Hexham. In September 2021, we moved into brand new school buildings with state-of-the-art learning facilities. We cherish the strong partnerships that exist between pupils, parents/carers, staff and the local community making these successful, friendly and welcoming schools. Pupils across our trust have an eagerness to learn and achieve very well academically. We pride ourselves on the care we give the children in both middle and high school.

You will be at the forefront of leading the music curriculum from Key Stage 2 to 4, with scope to build on the very positive provision in place across both schools. You will lead the consistent implementation of an ambitious curriculum to ensure the intended impact for all pupils. You will work with colleagues, learners and their parents/carers to build strong, positive relationships to enable all pupils to fulfil their potential. You will be ambitious for the success of all learners and will establish an environment where high expectations are embedded across your teaching team.

We place a high value on our activity programme beyond the classroom and are proud of the many and varied enriching activities that form part of our educational offer. We have high expectations of behaviour and attitudes and strive to enhance the personal development of our pupils through a well-sequenced curriculum experience. We invest strongly in our teachers’ professional development and the successful applicant will be well-supported to become the best they can be. As Curriculum Leader of Music, you will have a central role in the vast and varied extra-curricular programmes in both schools to ensure that all pupils have opportunities to develop their skills and interests.

The successful applicant will access a supportive induction and continual professional development package.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory Certificate of Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Please see the job description for more details.

If you wish to apply for the role, please submit an application form and cover letter to recruitment@qehs.net.

If you wish to have a confidential discussion about the role, or would like to arrange to visit the school, please do not hesitate to contact our recruitment team on 01434 610362 or send an email to recruitment@qehs.net.

Ofsted Report

“The executive headteacher, ably supported by the head of school, senior team and governing body, is determined to make the school the very best it can be. The school continues to improve at a pace. Currently, from their different starting points, pupils make good progress in most subjects, including English and mathematics. Extra-curricular activities are given a high priority, as leaders say that ‘arts, sport and other opportunities help shape pupils as individuals and as citizens of the wider world’.”
