Job overview

As one of the largest and most successful further education colleges in Europe, The Manchester College provides education and training to a wide range of learners and clients across the City of Manchester and beyond. The Manchester College is currently reshaping its curriculum, workforce and estate to improve our agility and contribution to meeting local skills priorities and national funding imperatives. We intend to further enhance our reputation as one of the most capable and ambitious colleges in the country.

With this in mind we are looking to recruiting a Department Team Leader to lead to manage the Teacher Education team and expand Teacher Education provision. Although the majority of current provision is higher education, we are currently working to develop our teacher education team as an adjunct to the Manchester College Group’s Quality Team, which will increasingly create opportunities to work not just within Further and Higher Education within the College, but also in Justice Sector, Work-Based Learning and Open Learning contexts.

You will be responsible for achieving funding and learner number targets and therefore you should be enterprising and capable of breaking new ground in shaping what training we provide for teachers inside and outside of the College and how we provide it. However, a key priority for us is to recruit an individual committed to developing a team who role-model outstanding pedagogic standards and can make an increasingly significant contribution to the quality improvement agenda. For example, you will work closely with the Quality Team in the development of CPD for teachers, including our annual Teaching and Learning Conference, and mentoring arrangements. You will also be the College’s Centre Manager for the University of Huddersfield Education and Training Consortium.

You will participate in continual professional development activities to ensure the skills and qualifications we provide through Teacher Education are in line with sector best practice and play a significant role in the recruitment, interviewing, enrolment and initial skills assessment of learners. You will be expected to work flexibly in line with the requirements of the post and be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
