Located 30 minutes away from the centre of Newcastle, we are situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, including the historic village of Warkworth and its castle to the north, the picturesque fishing village of Amble, and an area of outstanding national beauty at Druridge Bay.

Following the promotion to a headship, we are seeking an outstanding secondary deputy headteacher to join our senior leadership team who is a highly motivated individual and an experienced leader who will contribute to our success.

James Calvert Spence College is situated in a beautiful coastal town in North Northumberland. The school is part of a hard federation with our middle school. The federation caters for students from ages 9 to 18. We are a truly inclusive comprehensive secondary school. Staff and governors are fully committed to promoting equal opportunity and academic excellence for all students. Behaviour is good (Ofsted 2014) and pupils are engaged and happy to be at school. Our sixth form has recently been judged as good by Ofsted. This is an exciting time to join the federation as we continue our journey towards excellence.

You will:

  • Be responsible for developing and planning the curriculum, ensuring the best attainment outcomes for pupils and creating the school timetable;
  • Lead and ensure the quality of teaching and learning is consistently at least good throughout the college;
  • Be able to demonstrate a proven track record of raising standards;
  • Have proven skills in being a model of outstanding classroom practice;
  • Challenge and support both students and staff to achieve their full potential.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to make their mark, operate strategically and work closely alongside the executive headteacher and governors. Excellent interpersonal skills and senior leadership experience are desirable.

We can offer you:

  • The opportunity to work within a successful, experienced leadership team;
  • Continued Professional Development;
  • A well-resourced curriculum;
  • An exceptional working environment;
  • Motivated students who are “keen to learn, want to do well and are proud of the improvements being made in their college” (Ofsted 2014).
