About The Durham Federation

The Durham Federation is a hard Federation of two 11-16 community colleges in County Durham.  We have one Governing Body and one Leadership Team.

Fyndoune Community College is a Humanities College with the Rural Dimension.  Durham Community Business College is a Business Technology and Enterprise College.

Our strength is in our capacity to deliver a very broad curriculum entitlement using both colleges’ specialist facilities.  We do this however in two very calm, caring and small local community colleges.  We have developed a national reputation for the quality of our education for sustainable development.

Durham Community Business College has for two years running been one of the Schools & Academy Trust ‘most improved schools’ in the country.  In Fyndoune we have worked very hard over the last three years to bring about robust school improvement.  2009 will see both colleges achieve record results.

Student Voice is a real strength in both colleges.  Feedback from students is very positive.  Relationships with parents and carers are very effective.  We are small which enables us to know all of our students well.   All this has enabled us to create a caring, but demanding, learning environment.  We challenge our students not only to achieve, but to achieve beyond their dreams.

If you would like to see for yourself, please do not hesitate to make an appointment and come and visit us or telephone and talk with us – we would be delighted to tell you more about our college.
