Job overview

We are pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity to work in a unique and vibrant arts academy with students who are truly delightful to work with. Specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts, students must earn a place on their chosen arts pathway through an aptitude process which means they value their place at the academy. As a result, behaviour is exemplary.

We are rightly proud of our recent Ofsted report (May 2023) which gives a true picture of what life in the academy is like. We highly recommend that you read the report before applying and that you book a tour with the Vice Principal to get a feel for our ethos, to meet our fantastic students, and to gain an impression of the learning environment. Our recent Ofsted report can be found here: (https://files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50223511)

We are seeking to appoint a motivational, well-qualified, experienced and enthusiastic person to lead our Digital Art and Visual Art pathways through the next phase of educational reform. The successful applicant will be supported by two curriculum leads, who oversee the Creative Media Production qualifications and Art & Design courses, as well as being able to draw on the expertise of Games Design specialists and Art & Design specialists.

The Digital Arts and Visual Arts curriculum areas currently include: BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Creative Media Production; BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production (Games Art & Games Design); GCSE Fine Art; A' Level Fine Art; BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Art & Design; BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Art & Design. Students' outcomes are excellent.

BOA also benefits from strong links with Birmingham City University and the Conservatoire, who are our co-sponsors.

The person we seek to appoint will have a proven track record in the field of Visual Art & Design. You will have a passion for collaboration and nurturing talent. Our overriding requirement is to appoint someone with the capacity to be an excellent leader. Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills are paramount.

The Academy is looking for someone who has:

  • Qualified teacher status and a degree
  • Higher Education qualifications in Visual Art & Design
  • A strong track-record as an outstanding teacher of Visual Art & Design, who also (desirably) has a good knowledge and understanding of Digital Art
  • Recent experience of teaching Visual Art & Design at KS4 and KS5
  • Experience of delivering BTEC qualifications and other vocational courses
  • A passion for Digital Art and Visual Art which is evident in your day-to-day classroom practice
  • Proven leadership skills, alongside exceptional personal organisation and time-management skills
  • The ability to work in collaboration with other members of staff to develop and manage projects
  • Experience in implementing change
  • The ability to guide students’ academic, personal and professional development, as a tutor, in accordance with the Academy’s guidelines and procedures
  • An understanding of the key national and educational policies and issues
  • The ability to inspire high achievement in young people from all backgrounds
  • Presence, dynamism, a good sense of humour
  • An excellent record of attendance and punctuality

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the future of education within a world-class academy. If you share the Academy’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Please contact info@boa-academy.co.uk if you require any further details or would like to book a tour of the Academy ahead of the closing date. We also advise potential candidates to read the covering letter (in the Attachments section), which sets out the role in more detail.

We reserve the right to interview ahead of the closing date if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.
