Birmingham Ormiston Academy is a 14-19 academy specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts. The academy opened in September 2011 and has over 1040 students (320 at KS4 and 720 at Post 16).

We are keen to appoint an innovative, motivational, well-qualified, confident and enthusiastic teacher to be our Director of Digital Arts.

All BOA students are selected through aptitude in their chosen arts specialism and will follow either a Creative, Digital or Performing Arts pathway.

The Digital Arts Pathway at BOA is a centre of excellence and is partnered by some of the country’s leading creative industry. These include the BBC, Maverick TV, British Record Industry Trust, PRG, Live Nation, Orion Media, Punch Records and many more. BOA also has strong links with Birmingham City University.

At Post-16, Broadcast, TV, Film, Radio, Games and New Media is offered as part of the Creative Media Production BTEC Extended Diploma. A level 2 qualification is also offered at KS4.

The person we seek to appoint will have a proven track record in the field of Digital Arts. You will have a passion for collaboration, teaching, continuous development and delivery within this specialism of Broadcast, Gaming and New Media. You will be confident to manage the BTEC programmes offered at BOA (details can be found online and in the prospectus).

Our overriding requirement is to appoint someone with the capacity to be an excellent leader. Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills are paramount. Vision and ability to raise standards and develop the Digital Arts pathway is key to this role.

The academy is looking for someone who has:

  • A teaching qualification and a degree
  • A strong track record as an outstanding teacher and practitioner.
  • A passion for Digital Arts
  • The ability to contribute and teach in the field of Broadcast (TV, Film, Radio), New Media, Interactive media, Games and Animation (you will ideally be an expert in at least one area)
  • An awareness of the new modes of production, distribution and consumption
  • Proven leadership skills
  • The ability to work in collaboration with other members of staff to develop and manage projects
  • Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • The ability to guide students’ academic, personal and professional development, as a tutor, in accordance with the academy’s guidelines and procedures
  • Presence, dynamism, good sense of humour and approachability

BOA Creative, Digital and Performing Arts Academy is a state-funded, high-performing 14 to 19 academy specialising in creative, digital and performing arts. The brand-new landmark building, located at the hub of the digital and creative industries in the West Midlands, opened September 2011. It has superb facilities for academic, vocational and extra-curricular activities. BOA is 100% selective, based on aptitude, and as a result, it is unique in its admissions criteria.

Whilst students have talent in their chosen pathway subjects, there is a full range of academic ability. Alongside their vocational courses, students in Year 10 and 11 study an additional eight GCSE’s including English, Maths and Science. In Year 12 and 13 students can opt to study one or two additional A Levels.
