Job overview

About us

We are currently eight schools: three special needs schools, four secondaries and one primary school, all local to the Farnham, Haslemere and Woking areas. As a Trust, we are very positive about the difference we are making. Our schools are a force for good within their respective communities, delivering positive outcomes as reflected across the measures of Ofsted, Progress 8 and national attainment measures. Our finances are strong, despite funding challenges, and our estates are well maintained with a regular programme of innovative capital works taking place across all our schools. We are the largest employer in the area and therefore have a responsibility to our staff to ensure they are looked after and enjoy being part of our organisation.

The Trust is at an exciting point in its development as we move into a new phase of growth, with a further five schools joining the Trust from September 2024, including two specialist schools.

The role

As a Director of School Improvement for specialist schools, you will play a pivotal role in driving forward our mission to provide outstanding education and support to students within our specialist schools.

Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of school improvement initiatives across the MAT, ensuring that every student has access to high-quality learning opportunities that meet their diverse needs.

Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing strategic plans for school improvement, providing guidance and support to school leaders and staff members, and fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. With your expertise in specialist education and your proven track record of driving improvement and raising standards, we believe that you will make a significant impact on the success of our trust.

What we can offer you

As a trust, we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every member of our team can thrive and contribute to our shared goals. We offer a vast range of benefits, including:

  • Hybrid working opportunities
  • Membership of the LGPS or TPS pension schemes with 22% (LGPS) and 28% (TPS) employer contributions
  • Access to our rewards scheme
  • Additional two-day wellbeing weekend in November
  • Private medical insurance
  • And more

The Trust was formed in April 2017; it resulted because of a group of local Headteachers wanting to work together to create even better opportunities for the students and staff. We are currently eight schools: three special need schools; four secondaries and one primary school all local to the Farnham, Haslemere and Woking areas. As a Trust, we are very positive about the difference we are making. As individual schools it is important that we retain the local context and identity of our unique academies, however, we are 'Stronger Together' and joining our Trust means that you will also have the benefit of working with colleagues across the MAT. The benefits of working together and the support that you will receive will ensure that, in your career with WMAT, you will develop not only the Staff you lead, the students you teach but also yourself. Our ambition is clear; to make WMAT a Trust that is outstanding both for the students that learn here and also for the staff that work in the Trust. All our academies are full and oversubscribed; a glowing endorsement of our success. Thank you for your interest in this position. We are inspired by the brilliant people who work in our Trust. Why not make an application to be part of a really positive organisation?
