Since 1952, we have helped thousands of students achieve their ambitions by recognising that everyone is different and placing student welfare at the heart of what we do.

We are now seeking an experienced academic professional as Director of Studies to help us continue to give our students the best opportunities in a globalised world. The Director of Studies will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining our high academic standards and commitment to student success
  • Counselling current and prospective students on appropriate programmes of study for their ambitions at the end of their time at the College and beyond
  • Leading on assisting and preparing the college timetable to meet individual student and staff requirements
  • Managing the implementation, review and evaluation of the curriculum and make confident recommendations for its improvement
  • Deputising for the Principal and Vice Principal in taking charge of the College when required

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is resilient, emotionally intelligent, driven and analytical to be a central part of a talented team and a distinguished school.

The Worthgate School offers an outstanding international pre-university educational experience to students aged 14+ from all over the world. Students live and study onsite in the heart of the city of Canterbury, studying for GCSEs, A levels, IB and University Foundation Programmes, and preparing for admission to universities across the country and elsewhere. We pride ourselves on our approach to teaching and learning, with small class sizes and an informal atmosphere ensuring that students are treated as individuals and build great relationships with staff.

We are accredited by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, an organisation which assesses independent schools in the UK. The college achieved the highest rating in its ISI inspection (March 2019) and was rated ‘fully compliant’ in all areas covering boarding, welfare, achievement and results, curriculum, extra activities, pastoral care, leadership and teaching.

We take student welfare very seriously, providing comfortable, safe and secure en-suite boarding accommodation. Our friendly house staff provide a home from home, looking after our students whilst encouraging them to become confident and independent. The wide range of nationalities and cultures represented at our College reflects our aim of developing our students into ‘Global Citizens’ who treat one another with respect and tolerance.

The Worthgate School is part of the CATS Global Schools Group. CATS Global Schools is a leading provider of pre-university academic courses and English language courses in the UK. We provide programmes including A Level, IB and University Foundation, as well as English Language Study, to a growing number of international students seeking to win places at UK universities.  We operate a number of different educational brands: CATS College Cambridge, The Worthgate School in Canterbury and Guildhouse in London; CATS Academy in Boston; Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) and Stafford House English language schools and study holidays. We benefit from being part of a global team focused on teaching and learning.
