Thomas Telford School established the West Midlands Consortium in 1998 and, since then, has effectively and successfully led and managed high-quality School Centred Initial Teacher Training Courses. Our PGCE and School-Based training programmes are highly effective in nurturing the talents of future generations of outstanding teachers and we have a proven track record of high employment rate, retention and career progression. We deliver programmes in PGCE Primary and PE, alongside supporting school based training routes.

We strongly believe in fostering reflective, self-assured practitioners who are confident in questioning and rationalising their progress and ability as teachers. Our courses draw upon expertise from our many Partner Schools within the Consortium to provide trainees with the most relevant knowledge and understanding of teaching in today's education system, as well as featuring guest speakers from well-respected external agencies and bodies. West Midlands Consortium has outstanding retention, pass and employment figures due to a dedicated support network and strong regional reputation. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Director of Teacher Training. The successful candidate will lead our efforts in shaping the next generation of educators through comprehensive training programs, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.

About Thomas Telford School

Thomas Telford School is a mixed, non-denominational, mainstream school with sixth form, situated in Telford, Shropshire. The school admits students aged 11-18 and has a reputation for outstanding GCSE results. In 2014, 100% of Year 11 students gained five or more A*-C GCSE passes. 

Thomas Telford School was formed as a City Technology College in 1991 specialising in mathematics, technology and science. It is sponsored by The Mercers’ Company and Tarmac Holdings Limited. It is also a member of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. It is now widely regarded as one of the most successful state secondary schools in England.

Thomas Telford School is passionate about raising standards and its approach to learning reflects this. The curriculum includes Music, Drama and Dance activities to ensure a broad education. With more time in the school day, students get the chance to spend extra time on important subject areas. 

The school forms partnerships with local businesses and students have access to more than 600 industry contacts. Sixth-form students get the opportunity to work for up to two weeks a year with employers.
