Job overview

Contract: Part time (3 days per week) and Permanent

King’s School is an ecumenical Christian School in the Diocese of Chichester. The school opened its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2013. There are currently just over 180 students in years 7 and 8 and a team of 25 teachers and support staff. We welcome applications from any teacher who is eager to develop their teaching so that students make rapid and sustained progress and who is supportive of our Christian ethos.

Our aim is to provide a high quality education in a caring Christian environment in which every student is known and cared for. We are committed to outstanding academic performance and to fostering a love of learning. Our work and relationships are based upon the four core Christian values of Love, Forgiveness, Respect and Responsibility and through these we encourage and support every student and member of staff to be the best that they can be.

We are currently recruiting for a Drama teacher with QTS and experience of managing student performance in the arts (applications from NQTs are welcomed). You will also be required to teach a second subject. If you are an outstanding classroom teacher with a passion for student learning and you want to be part of something new and exciting we look forward to receiving your application.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 8th July at midday. Shortlisted candidates will be asked for interview shortly after close of applications.

We are completely committed to safeguarding the welfare of our students. Those who work for us are expected to share this commitment, which will be fully tested as part of the selection process.

Our policies, procedures and practices reflect our commitment to equality and diversity. Individuals will be selected for appointment based purely on their suitability for the post.

King’s School is a Free School which takes funding from the department for Education and operates as any other state school. Our sponsor is the Russell Education Trust which is an organisation staffed solely by Educational Professionals (and not by private business).

Values and Vision

King’s School is an ecumenical Christian school, but welcomes staff and students of all faiths or none. Its four core values are love, forgiveness, respect and responsibility, demonstrating its strong upholding of religious values as well as its focus on creating students who are valuable contributors to the modern outside world.

The school's curriculum is strongly centred on English and maths, providing a firm foundation for the other curricular and extracurricular topics that it offers. Its religious studies lessons across all years help to encourage the understanding of Anglican as well as other mainstream Christian traditions.

Ofsted

“Governance is excellent. Governors use their wide-ranging skills to the best advantage of the school. They know where the best teaching resides and provide very effective challenge and support for school leaders. Students’ behaviour around the school and in lessons is [also] excellent. [They] are polite and take pride in their appearance [and] progress is tracked carefully so that effective action is taken to support students at risk of falling behind.” Ofsted 2015

The school had a short Ofsted inspection in December 2018 and maintained its good rating (from June 2015) with a recommendation that the school receives a Section 5 inspection for its next inspection due to marked improvement since 2015.
