About The South Leeds Academy

The South Leeds Academy is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in Leeds’ Belle Isle region. It is a sponsor-led academy supported and sponsored by the Delta Academies Trust. A smaller than average size for a secondary school, it will provide 475 places for secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 11-18.

Having gone through a number of names including Belle Isle Middle School and Merlyn Rees Community High School, the school merged with Matthew Murray High School in 2006 to become South Leeds High School. It gained its current name when it became a member of the School Partnership Trust Academies group in 2009. It joined the Delta Academies Trust in 2015.

Values and Vision

With the motto “growing minds, growing futures”, The South Leeds Academy is a strong believer that all children must be given a range of exciting opportunities in and out of the classroom to be successful. It is a school that promotes the idea of community, ensuring that it has an atmosphere of tolerance, openness and mutual respect.

Ofsted

“The principal, senior leaders, members of the education advisory board and the academy trust are addressing the school’s weaknesses with much-needed urgency. Most pupils behave sensibly in lessons and around the school most of the time. Leaders in the sixth form have increased students’ focus on their studies. Teaching is effective and, as a result, most students make at least expected progress.”
