Job overview

"Our mission is to provide an inclusive, international education in a happy, supportive and stimulating environment, where all the needs of the individual learner are met and students are inspired to achieve their full potential, enabling them to become responsible global citizens."

Drama Teacher

Drama is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13.

Drama is taught in two purpose built studios, with a new Arts Centre planned to be open in August 2016. All students study Drama taught as part of a carousel in Key Stage 3, with groups of students having two 70 minutes lessons per week for five weeks before spending five weeks in Art. This allows much greater continuity for both students and teachers, as well as collaborative curriculum development. The Drama curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum, but adapted to reflect both our location in South East Asia and the international nature of our students. Drama and Theatre Arts are also popular subjects at IGCSE and IB, and previous experience teaching one or both of these courses would be a significant advantage.

As well as their classroom teaching, all teachers at St. Andrews are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest. For Drama teachers this would include both the annual High School Production, and a growing number of other performances and events, including the annual Arts Expo, working with other teachers in the Creative and Performing Arts Faculty. Each year the Faculty also runs a very successful Arts Residential for Year 9 at a resort outside Bangkok.

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and has an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB. Our work on Assessment for Learning, Growth Mindsets and, more recently, High Performance Learning is a very important part of this.

Our school is committed to developing a Virtual Learning Environment using Moodle. There is a strong commitment to integrating the teaching and use of ICT skills into all areas of the curriculum, where appropriate.

St Andrews International School Bangkok was founded in 1997 on an attractive, conveniently located site which today is home to our Primary School. Today we are a school of more than 1,900 students representing some 55 nationalities ranging from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 13. In August 2017 we opened an additional campus at a nearby prime city centre location which delivers state of the art purpose-built learning facilities to our High School.

Our school provides a high quality, professional, well-resourced learning environment where each child’s talents and abilities are recognised and nurtured, and their needs supported. We are an inclusive school that welcomes students of all abilities. To ensure that all our children have an equality of opportunity, we have a professional Learning Support Department. This team works with class teachers to identify and support children in their learning across the school, whether they need extra help with their studies or have been identified as gifted and talented.
