About HIKSVS International Bilingual School

Tianjin, China

Location: Tianjin is one of the four municipalities in China. Its name means 'the place where the emperor crossed the river'. Facing the Bohai Sea, the city, one-time imperial port, serves as Beijing's vital gateway to the sea.

Tianjin is one of the most well-known and desirable places to live in China. With only 30 minutes on the high-speed rail train to Beijing, the capital of China, it offers low living expense advantage whilst maintaining an excellent standard of living. It is a very convenient hub for travel and exploring other countries in this dynamic and vibrant region.

Tianjin Binhai International Airport (IATA: ZBTJ) is located in the east of the urban area, in Dongli District, which is only 15 km (9 miles) to the east of the urban area. It is a second alternative to high-speed train, especially if wanting to reduce the added travel time and cost that comes associated with flying into Beijing -- just some 120 km (75 miles) from Tianjin. The city is also served by Beijing Capital International Airport and the new Beijing Daxing International Airport, which was completed in 2019.

A few popular routes are available from Tianjin Binhai International Airport, including Auckland, Bangkok, Hiroshima, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Kuala Lumpur, London, Moscow, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul-Incheon, Singapore, Taipei-Songshan and Tapei-Taoyuan. However, the destinations are far more than that if Beijing Capital International Airport and Daxing International Airport are taken into account, which is so near. Because the fairly short distance between the two cities, and bullet train service available, consider both cities as an arrival point.

As a dual-core city, Tianjin is divided into the old city and the Binhai New Area. Binhai New Area is a new growth pole in China, and it maintained an annual growth rate of 8.2% of the GDP in 2023. As of the same year, about 120 Fortune Global 500 companies had made presence in Binhai. It is a base of China's advanced industry, financial reform, and innovation.

In urban population, the city ranks eighth in China and its urban land area (Binhai New Area is not included) is sixth after Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Tianjin's urban area is located along Haihe River, which connects to the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers via the Grand Canal in Tianjin. Tianjin was once home to foreign concessions in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China era. The municipality incorporates the coastal region of Tanggu, home to the Binhai New Area and the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA).
