About Eigg Primary School

EIGG and MUCK PRIMARY SCHOOLS and NURSERIES

Eigg and Muck Primary Schools have a wonderful, committed staff team who work to improve outcomes for all children. The school enjoys strong links with one another and with other schools in the Mallaig Associated Schools Group.   The schools are well-resourced, and both islands are utilised as an extension of the classroom.

Each school has a polytunnel, garden area, playground with grass, a forest school (with fire area for cooking!) and access to wonderful community halls.  The parent community are supportive of the schools, which are very much at the centre of both communities.

Eigg and Muck Primary Schools also enjoy links with local businesses and community members.  In 2018-19 session, we are looking to build upon the school’s success with our improvement priorities, which include: - Raising attainment in literacy and numeracy - Improving the mental, emotional, social and physical health and wellbeing of all pupils - Continuous Profiling and Reporting.

Currently, the school rolls are:

Eigg: 5 children in Primary, 3 in Nursery

Muck: 6 children in Primary, 3 in Nursery

THE ISLANDS

The islands of Eigg and Muck are spectacular places to live and work.

Muck has a population of around 40, and is a thriving community set within a breathtaking landscape. There are many small, thriving businesses on Muck, and the school is a central part of the community. The island has its own renewable electricity system and a fantastic community hall. Please browse the attached pictures to appreciate the beauty of Muck and to get a feeling for the school community.

Eigg is a beautiful island with a vibrant community. As on Muck, the types of work people do is very diverse. Eigg has a shop and post office, a tearoom and a community hall, and a population of around 110 people.  Please look at the photos to see the spectacular beauty of Eigg.

WHAT OUR STAFF, CHILDREN and PARENTS THINK

Eigg and Muck communities would be delighted to welcome an aspiring leader with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for improving outcomes for all children and families.

- Mr Andrew Murray, departing Head Teacher

As a new member of staff I was welcomed into the school community and supported as I started my role. There are so many opportunities for learning in the environment and Muck Primary really commits to using these to their potential. In nursery, we have access to resources such as the polytunnel and forest school which help the children to gain independence, confidence and become successful learners, through exploring problems in the real world. We have also been able to take advantage of being within the school, working with the school children in regularly timetabled activities as well as one-off events which really enrich the social lives of both the school and nursery children.

- Phoebe Haigh, Early Years Practitioner, Muck Nursery

Our school is the heart of the island.

- Judy Taylor, Pupil Support Assistant, Muck Primary School

Our school is a positive and vibrant environment for pupils to learn. We are very lucky to have such a well resourced school, with great facilities close by (outdoor classroom, polytunnel, forest school, community hall and of course the whole island to explore!). The school is key to the sustainability of the island community . It is well supported by staff, parents, islanders and local businesses."
