We have an exciting opportunity for outstanding Teaching Assistants and/or Nursery Practitioners for Brighton College Prep Kensington, in September 2024. 

We are looking to recruit invaluable classroom assistants to support our room leaders, to be responsible for the welfare of the children in their areas and to support their learning and personal, social, and emotional development. We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals with experience within an Early Years setting.

Brighton College Prep Kensington Early Years department provides a happy, safe, and stimulating environment for children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old. The children have access to many of the Prep facilities, including two acre’s of secret garden, opportunities for Outdoor Learning, timetabled cookery, PE and dance lessons, as well as opportunities to take the children beyond the classroom through planned visits to the National History Museum, Science Museum, Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park (all within walking distance).


Job Description:

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Support the Room Leader in delivering the curriculum, supporting children as necessary in small groups, 1:1 or in class settings with direction from the Room Leader or Head of Early Years.

• Assist in providing a high standard of care for children placed in Brighton College Prep Kensington in a way that meets their physical, social, emotional, intellectual and developmental needs.

• Assist with the implementation of daily routines within the schools.

• Adhere, with guidance, to the schools' Policies and Procedures.

• Give support to all other staff within the school as necessary, for example, with displays and preparation of resources.

• Support children in After School Care and activities.

• Meet the children's emotional, social and academic needs and encourage them to develop good social and interpersonal skills as they interact with their peers.

• Assist Room Leaders and teachers by supporting all children to access the curriculum at an appropriate level to their ability and in all tasks that support teaching.

• Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports, as required, to the Room Leader or teacher on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.

• Responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the Room Leader or teacher, contributing to the review of systems/records as requested.

• Assist in displaying pupils’ work as requested by the Room Leader or teacher.

• Assist in providing an attractive and stimulating range of equipment, activities and displays, indoors and outdoors, relevant to the ages and needs of the children, which encourage curiosity, independence and kindness.

• Be familiar with any Statutory Guidance, Ofsted and ISI Guidelines and good practice recommendations and assist in their implementation.

• Share in the responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.

• Liaise with parents and encourage their involvement in the aims of Brighton College Prep Kensington and in all aspects of their children’s care.

• Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents or visiting professionals as directed.

• Assist in the daily management of the setting, including ensuring that the school is kept safe, secure and clean at all times.

• Prepared to help where needed in preparing snacks, cleaning the equipment and dealing with the day-to-day events such as toileting should the need arise.

• Respect the confidentiality of information received.

• Attend staff meetings and INSET sessions as required by the Head of Brighton College Prep Kensington

• Attend school events such as Open Days, Sport Days and other dates as published in the school calendar.

• Perform any other tasks or duties which the Head or Head of Early Years may reasonably assign.

• Be prepared to undertake additional training deemed suitable for fulfilling the role.

 

Person Specification

Competencies:

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially

• Accurate record keeping

• Good sense of humour


Knowledge and Experience:

• Previous experience of working with young children

• Experience of working as a Teaching Assistant


Education

• TA qualification Level 3 or above

• GCSE Mathematics and English grade C or above.
