The Organisation:
The Brilliant Club is an award-winning charity that exists to increase the number of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds going on to secure places at highly selective universities. The simple, scalable and sustainable we work to achieve this is by recruiting, training and placing PhD tutors in non-selective state schools to deliver programmes of university-style teaching to small groups of high performing pupils. Each programme has an ‘academic strand’ that consists of a series of six university-style tutorials, and an ‘access strand’ that consists of two university. Our training programme gives PhD tutors the opportunity to communicate their research and share their expertise with keen young learners, at the same time developing their own teaching, public engagement and communication skills. Through this process, our PhD tutors help us to provide sustained, long-term support that develops the knowledge, skills and ambition that help pupils to secure places at highly selective universities. The charity has four regional offices across England and has 27 full-time members of staff and more than 450 PhD tutors nationwide. To find out more, please visit www.thebrilliantclub.org
The Opportunity:
The Brilliant Club is recruiting for an East of England Regional Director to consolidate and continue its rapid expansion in the East of England which has seen the charity work with over 750 pupils in over 30 schools in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex in 2014/15. We expect this role to be initially based in London but with regular travel to East Anglia, although we are open to discussing other alternatives. The East of England Regional Director will have oversight of programmes within the region, as well as support a range of business activities including charity development and network building. The successful candidate will be invited to join the charity’s experienced senior leadership team and will be supported by a central back office. For this senior position we are looking for a driven and dynamic individual with relevant sector experience and a track record of success. In return, the person taking on the role will have a great opportunity to develop the provision of a leading educational access charity, including developing the regional office and regional team.
Job Purpose
The regional directors will be responsible for managing programmes in the East of England from universities to programme operations through to schools. This includes managing key relationships with partner universities (including the University of East Anglia and the University of Cambridge), confirming capacity for events and overseeing a pipeline of applicants to work as PhD tutors. In terms of programme operations, this includes recruiting, training and placing PhD tutors in schools to deliver our core programme, as well as the delivery of events and other bespoke programmes where required. In terms of schools, this includes directly managing sales and initial relationships for new customers and overseeing renewals and relationship management for existing customers. It is also expected that the regional directors will make a significant contribution to broader organisational priorities, including charity development and network building.
