Job overview

Fixed-term until August 2016, ref: SSC/3565/JM.

LB Islington, Children’s Services, Targeted-Specialist Children-Family Services, Children in Need, Adolescent Multi Agency Specialist Service (AMASS).

Advance your career in Education and Children’s Social Care.

Islington Council has worked hard to establish a shared vision across agencies for the delivery of services to young people and their families. The Adolescent Multi-Agency Support Service (AMASS) launched in spring 2007, is part of this vision. The team provides intensive outreach interventions to young people and their parents or carers, where young people are at high risk of becoming looked after or of placement breakdown.

Young people referred to AMASS are typically aged 10-16 and likely to have educational issues relating to exclusions, attendance, low attainment, special educational needs and social exclusion. The core activities of the Education Co-ordinator will be to work directly with young people and their families as well as working closely with partner agencies. The post will also involve some time limited direct teaching to enable children and young people with complex educational needs to return to a formal educational setting.

You will need to be focused on improving outcomes for children and young people and ensure that every child is given the opportunity to achieve. Highly effective organisational and integrated working skills are critical, as is the ability to drive change whilst ensuring that children are kept safe from harm.

With experience of supporting children and young people with complex social and educational needs, including challenging behaviour, you will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have experience of working within a multi-agency team or service.

We offer a stimulating and highly supportive working environment, with an exemplary range of multi-agency support with both clinical and group supervision. The established teams within SMAOS have a significant evidence base of positive outcomes for families; promote excellent practice in user involvement and engagement and carry high regard both locally and nationally for innovative practice with hard to engage families.
