Job overview

Come and make a major impact in Guernsey

You are a senior education professional; you may be a headteacher or deputy headteacher, a local authority officer or a consultant with a broad range of educational knowledge and experience. Wherever you have worked, you are now looking for a role where your talents and experience can be used to help shape the face of education in one of the most beautiful places in the British Isles.

This is a senior education post, working in partnership with early year’s settings, schools, services and other providers. This is a new role which will be highly rewarding, challenging and diverse and involves working closely with other members of the Standards and Learning Effectiveness Team to ensure high quality outcomes for all our children and young people. You will work directly with the Early Years Project Officer and lead new initiatives, including the development and implementation of universal pre-school provision for The Bailiwick of Guernsey.

You will demonstrate an excellent ability to work with a wide range of other professionals and partners from across The Bailiwick of Guernsey. As such, experience of developing and implementing good practice within the Early Years will be an advantage.

You will work closely with the Early Years Team within the Health and Social Services Department and in particular the Island Regulator. You will have personal contact with States politicians, parents and a broad range of professionals within the education and health system, particularly pre-school owners and managers and headteachers with whom you will build successful relationships. Your ability to listen, understand, negotiate and persuade will be vital as will be your skills in taking a lead role in specific areas for development.

Reporting to the Head of Standards and Learning Effectiveness, you will be joining a highly skilled team of people who are committed to ensuring the highest standards of education for all the children and young people in The Bailiwick of Guernsey.

This post carries a 15-year housing licence and you can expect to:

  • Work in a well resourced school that follows an innovative Bailiwick curriculum based on the English National Curriculum and which has favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of ICT in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;
  • Enjoy the benefits of more generous tax allowances on an island with no VAT.

We look forward to hearing from you and invite you to contact Nick Hynes, Head of Standards and Learning Effectiveness, on 01481 733000 or email: nhynes@education.gov.gg for an informal discussion.

Applications can be made via www.gov.gg/jobs

Closing date: 12th March 2015
Interviews will take place in Guernsey on 24th and 25th March 2015
