Windrush Primary School is a mainstream academy school for children aged 3-11, situated in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London. In September 2012, Windrush Primary School expanded, opening a second site in Charlton to add to the Thamesmead site. Ninety Reception pupils were welcomed to the Charlton school, and 90 pupils now join in each year.

Although Windrush Primary School is split across two sites, both hold dear to the same values and high expectations. In 2013, Ofsted rated the school as outstanding, a status it has held since 2007.

Executive headteacher

Jo Marchant

Values and vision

Windrush Primary School aims to maintain a warm, welcoming, caring and happy school community in which all pupils feel valued and have a strong sense of personal achievement. Teachers promote the highest academic standards and good communication through the whole school community. The values are summarised as: happiness and enjoyment; politeness, kindness and caring; respect and tolerance; effort, attitude and perseverance; high standards of behaviour; partnership; honesty, fairness and trustworthiness.

Windrush Primary School promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Ofsted report

“The aspirational leaders and managers, including governors, have secured high achievement for pupils and outstanding teaching over many years. These continue to improve as the school expands. Standards in reading, writing and mathematics are well above those of most schools nationally. All pupils make exceptional progress, many from starting points which are low. Teaching and learning are outstanding. Parents and carers at both sites are unanimous in their praise of the school.”
