Academy21 supports thousands of vulnerable students every year who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to attend a physical secondary school. In any year we partner with over 1000 schools and local authority services to help them realise the best possible outcomes for young people who may be unable to attend school regularly due to medical or complex mental health issues to attendance or behavioural needs. Start Date – January 2025 onwards 

Salary Range – £34,500 - £40,950 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. 

Position: Full Time, Permanent Contract.

You will be contracted to work 42 weeks per year, which includes currently 38 weeks of teaching, 1 week of directed training. The remaining 3 weeks are currently treated as annualised hours, where these 3 weeks are calendared as holiday and the time made up across the other 39 weeks 

 

 

The successful candidate will join a talented team of specialists, providing excellent online experiences for KS3 and KS4 students.  

In English, KS4 includes AQA GCSE English Language; AQA GCSE English Literature and Functional Skills English, following on from our KS3 courses that are informed by the national curriculum. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspire, motivate and provide purposeful subject knowledge for students within the school as you teach and support them. 
  • Contribute to the development of your subject specialism and, where appropriate, the integration of your subject learning across the curriculum. 
  • Support the self-evaluation of the school’s effectiveness and the development of priorities for improvement. 
  • Assist in maintaining and developing a high-quality school environment and profile and act as a role model by your professional conduct and disposition. 
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and any class or group of students.  
  • Provide guidance, feedback and advice to students on educational matters in lessons and tutorials. 
  • Provide or contribute to assessments and reports relating to students in a timely manner.  
  • Participate in meetings and staff CPD opportunities.   
  • Undertake any other work as specified by their line manager.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

The Ideal Candidate will be qualified up to degree level in the related subject area and have a recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status. In addition, they will have: 

 

  • Excellent written and communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of the correct safeguarding procedures. 
  • Knowledge of the education sector in a teaching profession 
  • The ability to work well in teams. 
  • The ability to work effectively in dynamic and changing environments. 
  • Experience of working in the primary, secondary or college sector. 
  • Experience of working in state or independent school sector. 
  • Experience with creating resources and the ability to review and enhance our current course delivery. 
  • Good ICT skills with the ability to teach online using technology applications.

King's InterHigh is the largest online school group in the UK, delivering a fully personalised education online. Our curriculum structure is based on the Key Stages, with IGCSEs offered at KS4 and A Levels at KS5. We teach students online from Key Stage 2 - 5, through a digital platform.

Academy21 is an online alternative provision, which caters for vulnerable students with different needs from a range of schools, local authorities and virtual provisions. We teach all core subjects at KS3 and KS4 plus various additional subjects including citizenship studies, English literature, history and ICT. Students take GCSEs and Functional Skills qualifications at KS4 and may stay with the school for any length of time, depending on their individual circumstances.

Our successful candidates will join a talented team providing excellent online educational experiences for our students whose ages range between 8 and 18. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
