Job overview

With the promotion of the previous post holder this is a great opportunity to join a team that is pushing hard to move the College to outstanding. It has a turnover of around £30 million, and is co-located with a university college and a UTC which is currently under construction. It enjoys a site close to the town centre but which has a spacious and attractive feel to it. There is an enthusiastic and committed team at the College which this post holder will join.

The College always focusses on what is best for its students and employers, and while there is much to do the College has already established firm foundations on its drive to further improve the good provision. This role will play a critical part in the endeavour taking on the role as gatekeeper of everything “quality” in provision. The post manages a varied team of professionals, teachers, tutors and systems staff that, together, are responsible for spreading good practice around the College in terms of teaching and learning who are a core part of making the College inspection ready.

So there is a wide brief for this role: working as part of the College executive to set strategy on the one hand and observing a lesson on the other; helping devise policy and procedure and interacting with students to find out what is really working; working with the teachers and their managers to devise better curriculum planning and design; helping managers and staff understand equality and diversity. This is a senior post with considerable reach and huge responsibility.

You’ll therefore need to have an in-depth understanding of the sector, quality and inspection regimes, both Ofsted and QAA and if you are familiar with the IQER system so much the better. You will need to have the ability to create an atmosphere of continuous improvement and to harness the creativity of the talented staff already at the College. You’ll also need to have a track record of success in management as well as raising the quality of teaching and learning.
