New Heights School is looking for a dynamic, progressive and resilient individual to lead the school and ensure high quality learning for a group of children who present very challenging circumstances. A maintained school within Liverpool City Council, the school is looking for someone with proven experience who is willing to lead the school in its growth and development.


New Heights School is a Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 short-stay school, on three separate sites, that provides educational opportunities for up to 160 pupils, who have been, or who are at risk of being permanently excluded. It serves the whole of the city and is a key resource in shaping education for vulnerable students from its partner schools. The school was judged as ‘Good’ in its recent Ofsted inspection in December 2023.


The Governing Body is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate who:


• Has a clear vision, strong leadership and effective management skills

• Understands the needs of vulnerable young people and their families

• Has experience of working with young people who can present with challenging behaviour, using a consistent and fair approach

• Has experience of partnership working to achieve successful outcomes

• Has experience and sound understanding of budget management

• Has dedication to provide a personalised and outstanding education which enriches the lives of a diverse group of children.

• Has confidence and experience to inspire, manage and motivate in order to achieve an 'outstanding' OFSTED rating.

• Is a strategic thinker.

• Is passionate about learning.

• Is committed to building a high trust environment in the school.

• Has a highly developed emotional intelligence.

• Can demonstrate an ability to build capacity and develop sustainable leadership.
