Job overview

Situated in the county town of Rutland, Oakham Church of England Primary School and The Parks School share a beautiful new building with wonderful facilities. The two schools operate under a Hard Federation, with a single leadership team and a single Governing Body. The primary school has 309 children on roll. The Parks School provides support and education to a small number of younger children with a range of significant diverse special needs, while in Oakham Church of England Primary School there is a 20 place DSP.

The two schools have entered a process to become academies within the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust. The conversion for both schools is expected to complete by September 2015.

We are seeking an inspiring leader who will drive forward the planned improvements in our children's outcomes within our caring and inclusive Church school ethos.

The successful candidate will:

  • be an effective leader: providing clear vision; being committed to setting high standards; motivating pupils and staff; collaborating with stakeholders
  • know the characteristics of an effective school, and have implemented strategies to raise pupil achievement
  • have experience of monitoring and evaluating teaching
  • understand the role which can be played by all stakeholders in raising standards
  • be committed to enabling all children, whatever their differences, to reach their own full potential
  • be committed to safeguarding and providing for the needs of every individual child
  • be committed to the church school ethos and be willing to develop it.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, volunteers and visitors to share that commitment. Like all other staff, the Headteacher will be required to undergo Enhanced Disclosure and Barring service checks before employment.

Completed application forms should be sent with a covering letter (maximum two pages) to jevans@oakham-primary.rutland.sch.uk by noon on Wednesday 25 March 2015. Interview - 17 April 2015.
