Job overview

Location: Warrington (Easily commutable from Manchester, Liverpool, Merseyside, and much of the North West and North Midlands)

Great Sankey High School is one of the UK’s leading academies, heavily oversubscribed, OfSTED Grade 1 ‘Outstanding’, a National Teaching School, and a School Direct school. We have a substantial sixth form in new, purpose-built facilities (Barrow Hall College) with more than 400 students, and we have just less than 2,000 students overall. The school is within easy travelling distance from Manchester, Liverpool, Warrington, Stockport, Bolton, Bury and much of the North West of England and the north Midlands (we are close to the M6, M62 and M56). A generous relocation package is also available.

With the planned forthcoming retirement of our highly-regarded Executive Head, Alan Davies JP NLE at Christmas 2015, the post of Executive Headteacher will become available. We are now seeking to appoint an experienced, inspirational leader to build on Great Sankey High School’s many strengths, and further develop our ambitious vision of delivering world-class education, seeking out educational partnerships and looking to bring our skills and expertise to improve the life chances of ever-more children.

Our next Executive Head will be an outstanding leader, probably already experienced as a Head or Principal, and with the strategic abilities and interpersonal skills to operate effectively in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. He or she will combine a substantial record of successful senior leadership experience with first-class people and financial management skills and a strong intellect. The successful candidate will be inspiring and able to engage, enthuse and draw people together – this is already a very successful and happy school, with an effective and dedicated staff, looking to develop its reach and capacity, build further partnerships and networks, as well as continuously improve the attainment and achievement of our students.

We have prepared a website with further details about the opportunity – www.executivehead.co.uk from where a full information pack can be downloaded and you can watch videos of the school and college, but we appreciate you may like a chat before applying. Please do contact Mark Owen at our advisers ASDTi on 07736 775776 or e-mail mjo@asdti.com for further details. ASDTi are available daytime, evenings and weekends to suit your schedule, and we shall be pleased to arrange a visit to the school, which shall be, of course, in complete confidence.

The deadline for applications is 11pm on Friday 22nd May 2015.

“Strategic management at all levels, organisation, resourcing and support for arts provision has had an outstanding impact on the vibrant arts provision, pupil experiences, maturity and achievements within the arts. Great Sankey High School is a Good school (Ofsted 2017) and is part of the Omega Teaching Partnership. Our community benefits from wonderful students and a hardworking and committed staff.

Our ethos is very people-centric, built on ten core values developed by our student leadership group which underpin all of our aspirations for both students and staff.  We hope that these resonate with you.

The school enjoys an excellent reputation and has been over-subscribed for a number of years, indeed in September 2018 the Published Admission Number was raised from 315 to 375. This school expansion means a very secure future, both financially, but also in terms of holding a focal point within our community. We have a just completed a £5m building programme which has transformed the former primary school site next door into a new science block, sportshall and dining facility.

The school converted to become an academy in 2013 and was joined by four local, feeder primary schools to create the Omega Multi-Academy Trust in January 2018. In 2020, the Trust was joined by another high school. Our vision is to provide a community-based, continuity of education from 4 to 19, improving transition and raising achievement at every stage. This is a very exciting time to join the school and offers great opportunities.

Whilst this is a very good school with excellent opportunities, it is a school in transition in so many ways. We are seeking, therefore, a dynamic, innovative and determined teacher, who can inspire and implement change.

We are blessed with a wonderful student body, shown in their behaviour and academic standards. Students are proud of our school and we are proud of them. GCSE and A Level results are above national averages with an above average intake in prior attainment.

The school has a sixth form, Barrow Hall College, which is the largest school-based sixth form in Warrington. This allows the offer of a wide range of courses, whilst keeping the ability to know and nurture every student in their aspirations beyond the College.

We value the development of our staff and are working with Ambition Institute on an innovative CPD programme. Alongside this work, sits the ‘school to school support’ work of our National Support School status. As you will be aware, this offers candidates a host of personal and professional development development opportunities too.

Our mission statement:

The Great Sankey learning community provides excellent teaching and learning with passion and  purpose, based on core values, devised with our students. Working in a warm and welcoming, yet  purposeful environment, our mission is for everyone to be happy and inspired by their school  experience. We empower students to harness their own creativity, to raise their aspirations and to  achieve their potential. Working together, they gain confidence and pride to take their place in our community unities too.
