The Foundation Learning Department is highly effective, and it helps students to achieve in line with their peers and prepares them for their next steps in in independence, further training or employment. The departments intentions are multifaceted with a robust student-centred approach to provide learning and skill building opportunities for students with SEND ranging from Entry Level 1 to Level 1. Underpinning the curriculum is the Preparing for Adulthood model which focuses on Independence; Employability; Friends, Relationships and Community; and Good Health and Wellbeing. Built upon this, the Curriculum includes graded academic qualifications to support student progression into further education and employment.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:

  • To facilitate the flexible support and development of learning opportunities for the Department’s students in classes, at external venues, infilling into mainstream and other environments.
  • To provide pastoral support for students having a wide range of learning difficulties/ disabilities; emotional behaviour issues and other more complex needs
  • To support students’ additional needs which may include personal care, toileting, mobility, behaviour management etc.
  • To support students during breaks and lunchtimes in order to help develop their social skills and to access all college facilities i.e. canteen, library.
  • To contribute to the initial, baseline and continuing assessment of students and their progress including transition.

The Successful Candidate

Cardinal Newman College is a wonderful place to work, and this is an exciting opportunity for a enthusiastic candidate to join our friendly and well established Foundation Learning department. 

The Foundation Learning department is looking for someone who has knowledge and experience of supporting students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, has experience of using IT to support the learning process and has the ability to work as part of a team.

You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.

Terms and Conditions

Hours: 29.6 hours per week, term time only. Working hours for the role will be 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Thursday.

Salary: The post will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff Pay Spine at points 7 to 11 - pro rata to £23,585 to £26,097 per annum. Actual Salary £16,279.93 to £18,013.88 per annum
