Job overview

Up to £5,000 Relocation Allowance
R&R by negotiation for an exceptional candidate

We seek to appoint two outstanding teachers to become Lead Practitioners in our Faculty of Science. Specifically there are two separate positions; one in Physics and the other Chemistry.  The postholders will not only provide excellent teaching themselves but will lead on all aspects of teaching and learning so as to improve standards further in this already successful faculty.

This post is an ideal opportunity for candidates whose passion is teaching and learning, who enjoy being in the classroom, motivating and inspiring both students and colleagues, whilst still wishing to progress their career within education.  Our Lead Practitioners play a highly visible and central role in driving up standards of Learning and Teaching.  You should be consistently outstanding in your subject with the results to prove it.  Because coaching is a key tool when working with staff, you should have excellent communication skills and able to give direct, honest feedback in a way that nurtures a teacher’s professional capacity, confidence and enthusiasm for personal growth. The successful candidates will be outstanding classroom teachers in their careers to date and will display excellent leadership and teamwork skills.  They will have a proven track record of successful ‘A’ level teaching in their specialism, or the unquestionable ability to demonstrate this.  They will have presence, personality and the ‘wow factor’.

Science is a high achieving and dynamic faculty.  Results are outstanding and students make excellent progress.  In 2014 we achieved our best ever results at GCSE - 96% achieving at least one Grade C or above in Science; whilst 73% achieved at least a Grade C in two or more Science subjects.  These results indicate that the progress shown by students in Science is in the top 3% of the country.  Members of the very supportive team are totally committed to ensuring successful outcomes for our students.

At post-16 we currently offer ‘A’ level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Science.  Take-up at post 16 is excellent with approximately 100 talented students currently studying at least one ‘AS’ Science subject this year.  Students make outstanding progress at ‘A’ level, which is consistently above National Average.

Camborne Science & International Academy is a friendly, dynamic and innovative school in the heart of beautiful West Cornwall, which affords a high quality of life.  Results in both 2013 and 2014 place us at the very top of the school league tables.  For two years running we have been the highest performing state school in Cornwall at GCSE, according to official government statistics (percentage of students achieving 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths First Entry).

Our school has developed exceptional International Science and Mathematics links with top schools in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and South Korea.  Recent collaboration has involved joint research projects, International Science and Mathematics fairs and competitions, as well as many significant student/staff visits and exchanges.  The successful appointees will be encouraged to participate in this amazing and unique programme.

The person appointed will be given full support in their career development as we believe that development of staff is a key aspect in raising standards for our students. As these posts are on the leadership pay spine, there will be an expectation that the candidates will assume a whole school or faculty role with a focus on teaching and learning or pedagogy.
