We are seeking to appoint an experienced and well qualified General Builder to join our Estates Team at Rookwood School.

Rookwood School is a successful non-selective co-educational independent school located a short walk from the picturesque market town of Andover in Hampshire. With a new Sixth Form, we are the only independent ‘all-through’ school in the Andover area, educating children from the age of 2 to 18.

The role of the General Builder is to complete refurbishments and project work to various parts to the School also performing general site maintenance across the School. Working independently or as part of a team to help achieve the overall aims of the School.

Our maintenance work is a mix of planned and unplanned work, and we sometimes have to change what we are doing at short notice, to respond to weather related issues for example, to make sure that the School is able to continue to teach and support our children.

We would like to hear from you if you have experience in the building trade, and can use these skills to work across every facet of Rookwood Schools site.  

The main responsibilities for this role will include but are not limited to;

  • Taking the lead on project work and pre planned maintenance schedules
  • Carrying out skilled building work involving all aspects of onsite building maintenance, both internal and external.
  • Performing preventative and reactive maintenance work, either on your own or as part of the team, mainly focused on building however this could include painting, plumbing, carpentry related projects to the internal and external aspects of our buildings as well as work to our external ground areas and perimeters.
  • Tackling ground and building reactive maintenance and repairs
  • Supervising contractors as part of a project
  • Any other reasonable tasks or duties as directed by line manager

Rookwood School is a co-educational, all-through, independent day and boarding school based in Andover, Hampshire, for students aged 3-16. Rookwood was founded in 1934 as a girls’ school; boys were admitted to the preparatory school in 1950 and to the senior school in 2003. 

The school has recently expanded its facilities to include a sports hall and additional classrooms. The boarding house consists of two adjoining properties, one for boys and one for girls, located a short walk from the main school site.
