Wellacre Academy, in conjunction with the Manchester College, is seeking to employ an apprentice following the promotion of the current post-holder to a Site Manager role in another school. The successful candidate will support several schools within our schools grounds maintenance service and work under the guidance and supervision of the Grounds Manager.

Wellacre Academy is an excellent school in which to work and learn and is situated in Trafford, amid spacious and well planned grounds. Wellacre Academy Trust provides Grounds Maintenance services to various schools in the Trafford area, from Cutting Grass and Marking Sports Pitches to General Site Maintenance including Painting and minor repairs.

There is now an opportunity for a hard working candidate who is keen and willing to learn about all areas of Grounds Maintenance and Horticulture, plus some general maintenance skills.

Duties include –

  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
  • Preparing various sites for landscaping
  • Establishing and maintaining plants outdoors
  • Maintaining general amenity turf, including sport pitches and marking out running tracks, football pitches etc.
  • Establishing decorative amenity areas
  • Transporting plants and equipment. Loading/unloading vehicles, equipment and plants
  • Installing and maintaining drainage systems
  • Using and maintaining equipment and machines
  • Constructing new structures and surfaces
  • Maintain the condition of sport surfaces
  • Handyman/Caretaker tasks will be required from time to time, especially on rainy days.
  • Respond to customer requests and problems

Plus – Communication with the team and customers on site. Using various pieces of equipment including ride on mowers, so a good health and safety understanding is essential. A driving licence would also be an advantage. There will be minor repair task from time to time, this will develop the candidates skills over the winter months and will aid with progression on completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship course.
