Job overview

Hinkler Academies Trust is a small multi academies trust which comprises two primary schools: Kanes Hill Primary and Hightown Primary situated in Thornhill, on the eastern outskirts of Southampton. We are passionate in delivering the best educational provision and outcomes for the pupils and their families within our community. There will be approximately 600 pupils on roll across both schools from September 2015.

We are seeking a hands-on, motivated individual to fulfil a key strategic role within the school where you would be joining a forward thinking, committed workforce in a strong and supportive environment.

Reporting to the Executive Headteacher / CEO, there is the opportunity to demonstrate a broader contribution to the schools which is much more than just finance. This key role involves strategic leadership of finance, business and facilities management services. You must have strong financial acumen, excellent management skills, be innovative in your approach and be able to lead and inspire teams. You will work at a senior leadership level to help drive strategy and influence change at the schools.

The successful candidate will have a ‘can do’ attitude and seize opportunities that are consistent with the school’s long term strategic plans.

He/she will have:

  • a clear vision for the role and understanding of how it supports improvements in pupil progress
  • experience of implementing strategic financial plans and managing significant budgets
  • recognised financial/accountancy/school business management qualifications
  • an ability to generate income and write bids
  • strong business and commercial acumen as well as sound project management skills
  • a good working knowledge of Financial Management
  • strong leadership and management skills, being highly organised and able to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
  • experience of working in a school and knowledge of grants and funding to support schools is desirable but not a pre-requisite for the post.

In return this role offers:

  • excellent working environment, salary and terms and conditions
  • an exciting career and development opportunity
  • a rewarding and professionally challenging role
  • the opportunity to shape and deliver tangible improvements to the life chances of the pupils at the school

If you would like to play your part in securing outstanding provision for our pupils, we would very much like to hear from you.

We encourage visits to the schools so that you can discover more about our organisation. Please contact Alison Jones on 02380 463737 to arrange mutually convenient times.

Closing date for applications: 5th June 2015
Interview dates: 15th June 2015

Hinkler Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Services checks along with other relevant employment checks.

Kanes Hill is a larger than average primary situated in Thornhill, Southampton, a well-established area of social housing.  It is a very effective school as evidenced by the value added progress made by all pupils from entering the school aged four to leaving at age eleven.  In 2008, the school was judged as Outstanding by Ofsted, which noted that Kanes Hill is ‘a school with excellence around every corner.’
