Job overview

Join Our Team at Stamford Endowed Schools

The Governors of Stamford Endowed Schools invite applications for the role of Head from April 2025 or September 2025 to succeed Mr Will Phelan after 13 years of dedicated leadership. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a highly successful HMC school at an important point in its strategic development.

Stamford is a leading independent day and boarding school that comprises Stamford Junior School and Stamford School. Previously operating a diamond model across Stamford School and Stamford High School, Stamford merged the two senior schools and became fully co-educational in September 2023. The School now educates some 1,500 children aged 2 to 18 across three excellently resourced sites – the Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form.

Stamford is a dynamic, vibrant, modern and forward-thinking school, built on the strengths of five centuries of learning, with a resolute focus on preparing students for future endeavours. Students leave Stamford as rounded and grounded young people, ready for life beyond education. Through a richly diverse and individualised approach, students are nurtured to become the very best version of themselves.

The Governors now seek an inspirational Head who will provide the vision and leadership to further develop Stamford and lead it into the next stage of its development. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and forward-looking leader to build upon strong foundations and realise ambitious strategic objectives for Stamford. The successful candidate will bring a track record of leadership of the highest quality, strong communication skills and an alignment with the values and ethos of Stamford.

Stamford Endowed Schools are being supported by Odgers Berndtson in the recruitment of this post. Further details of this vacancy can be found using the following link. Closing date for applications is 9am BST on Friday 10th May 2024.

All interviews will be held after the advert's closing date.

The successful candidate will start either April 2025 or September 2025.

Stamford Schools are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The Stamford Schools have been educating students since 1532. Our Schools have a long and prestigious heritage, but everything we do at Stamford is focused on preparing young people to lead happy and fulfilling lives in the 21st century. At the start of the academic year 2023-2024 Stamford Schools opened its doors for the first time to teach students co-educationally at all stages as Stamford High School and Stamford School merged.

Stamford strives to offer an outstanding, contemporary education in which students develop the ability to think for themselves and to interpret the world around them. Every child at Stamford is encouraged to be an independent thinker and take the lead in their own education. Our students leave us with a flexible, adaptable mindset and an approach to learning that equips them to face the challenges and opportunities of their future.

Stamford is a dynamic, vibrant, modern, and exciting school, built on the strengths of five centuries of learning, with a resolute focus on preparing our students for 2030 and beyond. Our students leave Stamford as rounded and grounded young people, ready for life beyond education. At the heart of our all our schools is the focus on academic ambition, pastoral excellence, and the opportunity for students to become the very best version of themselves.

What is our vision at Stamford?

Stamfordians are future facing, divergent independent thinkers, emotionally intelligent and fully equipped to challenge and thrive. ‘Rounded and grounded’ is the hallmark of a Stamfordian student.

Team, Fire, Spirit – these are our School values

Team - Everyone has their own unique team around them.

Fire – Ignite the fire that is already within us and others.

Spirit – Everyone is different and that is our greatest strength.

"Stamford is a happy, welcoming and successful school. Our students leave Stamford as rounded and grounded young people, ready for life beyond education." - Will Phelan, Principal
