Job overview

The post of Head of Admissions is a vitally important role within this world leading school. The successful candidate will have responsibility for ensuring the admission of pupils at all entry points to the school, from 7+ through to 16+. As an important ambassador for King’s, the postholder plays a central role in communicating the school’s character and its strengths to prospective families and our wider community, working to ensure that we continue to be a first-choice destination for the most talented candidates and their families. The Head of Admissions will play a key role in supporting the school in the next phase of its development as an ambitious, progressive and innovative organisation, in the lead up to our 200th anniversary in 2029.

The Head of Admissions is responsible for ensuring an exceptional admissions experience for prospective pupils and their families, for further developing and nurturing excellent relationships with all our feeder schools, for sustaining an optimum number of successful pupil applications, and for furthering the school’s aims in the areas of representation and accessibility in pupil admissions. As such, they play an important outward facing role. At the same time, this is a role which requires careful and close liaison with staff across the school, to ensure that admissions events run smoothly and that the processes connected with admissions support the school’s values in academic and broader aspects of school life.

The Head of Admissions reports to the Director of Communications, Admissions and Marketing, and works closely with other members of the Senior Management Teams in both the senior and junior schools. The postholder will have line management responsibility for the whole school admissions team (including the Senior Assistant Registrar for the junior school). They will also play a key role in directing the work of the broader teaching and support staff in relation to admissions with the aim of delivering an exceptional admissions experience for all prospective families at all King’s events.

The successful candidate is likely to have leadership experience at a senior level, a deep engagement with the values and mission of King’s, and an understanding of complex and excellence-oriented organisations. They will have had experience at a senior level working collaboratively with other leaders, as well as an understanding of the successful working of school admissions. They will know how to get the best from others and have the skills to direct and empower their team to succeed and to help the school achieve its ambitions.

King’s is one of the most successful schools in the world, with outstanding academic results, first-class pastoral care and a vibrant co-curriculum. Overlooking Wimbledon Common, the school is situated in one of the most attractive parts of south east England and benefits from exceptional grounds and facilities.

Values and vision

Our school was founded in 1829 by Royal Charter as the junior department of the university, King’s College London, and as such, intellectual aspiration and a progressive spirit are our heritage.

Today, we offer an education of the whole person, in Mind, Spirit and Heart, the enduring ethos of our foundation. Our guiding mission is to look outwards, to the world beyond school, and to life at 25: we look to the lives we are preparing our young people to lead, so that when the time comes, they are ready to forge the pathway they choose, and to make a purposeful impact.

We aim for each of our pupils to enjoy an exhilarating adventure of learning and to pursue academic excellence within a fun, caring, welcoming environment. Academic outcomes at A level, IB and GCSE consistently place King’s amongst the very top schools nationally and globally.  Supporting our pupils to grow strong in spirit, in the shared values and qualities of character that will ground them, is equally important.
