Job overview

Lambrook is a thriving independent day and boarding preparatory school for 510 boys and girls set in a beautiful 52 acre site in Berkshire. The school is a forward-thinking yet traditional school with a strong family ethos and an excellent reputation. Founded in 1860, Lambrook has sought to provide the best possible foundations for each and every one of its pupils. Over the years, a number of facilities have been added including a well-equipped Science and IT block, a new Pre Prep building, an all-weather pitch and a senior classroom block built around a refurbished squash court. In January 2013, doors opened to a state of the art Performing Arts Centre, followed by a refurbished new classroom block in September. In March 2014 construction began on a 25m indoor swimming pool, which will further enhance the existing range of excellent facilities at Lambrook.

A highly creative and innovative individual is required to head this key department at Lambrook. You will need to be an exceptional practitioner with the ability to bring out the artistic skills and creative individuality of the pupils. Lambrook thrives on inquisitiveness and Art is appreciated for its technical gifts but also for the broad academic approaches it offers. The Head of Art will want to embrace the creative ethos of the school as he/she develops a unique and inspiring curriculum. The Head of Art is responsible for providing a stimulating, challenging and imaginative art experience for all our pupils. The Department will move in the near future to an exciting purpose built Art and Design building that will house a studio with inspirational views over our magnificent grounds. For the right candidate, there is potential for career progression to Head of Creative Arts, a new role that is envisaged upon completion of our new building.

You will have excellent team building abilities, be a creative and positive team player, have excellent interpersonal skills, organisation and communication skills. It is essential that they have a broad and deep understanding of the academic and historical aspects of a wide range of art disciplines. You should have the technical skills and breadth of knowledge to enable pupils to produce work that is well beyond what may be expected for this age range, including overseeing the preparation of pupils for Art Scholarship. Art at Lambrook is a highly regarded and central subject that enriches all areas of school life and creativity. An appreciation of different learning styles and the ability to build up positive rapport with colleagues and pupils alike is essential. They should show a clear appreciation of the ethos and aims of Lambrook and the way in which Art contributes to the aims of the school.

THE SCHOOL

Lambrook is a thriving Prep School for around 600 boys and girls aged between 3 and 13, situated in 52 acres of beautiful Berkshire countryside. The School offers an enriching and exciting experience for each child, equipping and inspiring them ready for the next stage of their educational journey and indeed, life beyond.

The School comprises of a Pre Prep for children in the early Years Foundation Stage and Years 1 and 2, and a Prep for children in Years 3 to 8.

Lambrook offers weekly and flexi-boarding for boys and girls from age 7 to 13. There is a thriving boarding community where pupils can board anything from five nights a week to one night every so often. Boarding is seen as a happy extension of Lambrook School life with 75% of the Prep School taking advantage of boarding in some way. With 95% of pupils going on to board at their future school, Lambrook offers a great opportunity to prepare pupils for this.

PROVEN TRACK RECORD

Lambrook has been rated ‘excellent’ in every area following the most recent ISI Inspection; which included the quality of teaching, pupils’ achievements, opportunities in sport, music, performing arts and extra- curricular activities, as well as boarding provision and pastoral care.

Lambrook has an outstanding track record in preparing its pupils to go onto the leading Senior Schools in the country. We are proud of our 100% pass rate for Common Entrance and a very generous spread of scholarships across all curricular areas.

A DISTINCTIVE APPROACH

The School is a forward-thinking yet traditional school, with a strong Christian and family ethos. Founded in 1860, the School has a rich history of success and is proud of its reputation as one of the leading Prep Schools in the country.

Lambrook is fortunate to have some of the best facilities in the independent sector at preparatory level; a 25 metre swimming pool, Astroturf, hard courts, a Diamond Jubilee Performing Arts Studio, dance studio, sports hall, nine hole golf course and its own orchard and farm. 2019 saw the completion of our Queen’s Building; a £6 million new development offering pupils a remarkable environment for academic learning, art, design and technology and the performing arts, supported by the most outstanding teachers and support staff.

THE FUTURE

Lambrook is proud of the quality of the educational experience provided for all pupils.

“We say that we give our pupils ‘the feathers to fly’. Along with the academic, we believe in the importance of other ‘feathers’ too, including a healthy ‘plumage’ of sport, music, drama, the creative arts, leadership programmes, expeditions with a purpose, charitable events that make a difference and so much more. Such feathers are essential in equipping children with skills such as inner confidence, learning to work in a team and valuing others, handling success as well as disappointment, building resilience, stepping out of their comfort zones, thinking outside the box, and in so doing creating ‘whole’ individuals who can influence society for the good. We know that with these feathers, our pupils will go on to take flight when they leave us and to soar into the next stage of their academic journey and indeed, their lives beyond.”

Jonathan Perry, Headmaster

Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, Lambrook has been able to offer so much more to pupils at the School. Since its founding as a school in 1860, Lambrook’s campus has matured considerably, combining its historic architecture with an ever-growing list of state-of-the-art facilities. Such improvements have had a transformational effect upon the Lambrook community and Lambrook has been able to offer exceptional educational opportunities to all of its pupils.

As well as embarking on some exciting new building projects, the school has also been able to provide an increasing number of bursaries to those who would truly benefit.
