Located in the village of Martley, Worcestershire, The Chantry School is a co-educational secondary school for children aged 11-16. The school has around 700 pupils, making it smaller than the average secondary school of its type. A rural school, The Chantry School’s catchment area covers a number of small villages dotted around Worcestershire. The school has a close working relationship with a number of other post-16 institutions, in order to improve options and outcomes for its students. Originally opened in 1963, it adopted its current comprehensive moniker in 1983, and has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation since then.

Values and Vision

The Chantry school works hard to foster a sense of personal responsibility and moral purpose among its pupils, seeing this as being crucial to their development into well-functioning adults, capable of being self-motivated in their work. This theme runs through much of the school's practice, with students being given extensive support in Key Stage 4 so as to be fully aware of the kind of options available to them when they leave school.

Ofsted

“This care and support not only apply to academic studies but also to pastoral issues where again, the school excels. Staff really care about students and want them to be happy and succeed. The more vulnerable students who need extra help and support are cared for well. Excellent partnerships are made with outside agencies to work with school staff to help these students through difficult transitions in their lives.”
