Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, ambitious and outstanding practitioner as Head of Biology to lead and co-ordinate the delivery of the Biology curriculum at KS3-5. Biology at Oaklands is a high achieving and extremely popular subject at A level. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of inspirational teaching in this subject and will be able to manage and lead a team of dedicated specialists and non-specialists.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high achieving school at GCSE and A level. Based on 2014 results, Oaklands is placed in the top10% for all schools in Value Added measures for both GCSE and A level. At A level we excel with us placed in the top 15% nationally for A level Points per Entry and top 10% nationally for the Facilitating Subjects measure.

We have an outstanding and talented Science Department. At GCSE we enter more students for Triple Science than national average, with our Value Added scores placing us in the top 15% nationally and our attainment scores are significantly above National Average. A level Biology results are excellent, in the top 10% nationally, with an average grade A per entry and 0.75 DfE Value Added measure and a Grade 1 ALPS score. This post arises due to expansion of our Sixth Form and a departmental restructure.

Oaklands is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form situated in East London. It is a community state school as well as a NSS (National Support School] that provides support to other schools. A smaller than average secondary school, it will provide 850 places for secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 11-18, when fully subscribed.

With over 20 years’ worth of educational success, Oaklands has been a specialist school for science since 2003 and became a specialist modern foreign language school in 2008.
