Job overview

Head of Boarding – Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University Affiliated School

XJTLU-AS requires a Head of Boarding for a new international K-12 centre situated on a beautiful campus in Suzhou, China. The centre is part of a large Chinese private school that has just been taken over by XJTLU, a prestigious university in Suzhou. This is a very exciting time to join the school with new, visionary leadership and plans for significant investment in physical and human capital.

Our motto is ‘Be safe, Be happy and Achieve’, and these values are at the core of everything we do. We are a school that is not afraid to take risks and our teachers are team players with a ‘can do’ attitude.

XJTLU-AS is a boarding school, so all teachers are expected to live on campus and take an active part in the life of the school. There are several important components of the teacher’s duties; the teaching commitment, the boarding duties, which will include some evening and shared weekend duties, break time supervision and a commitment to offer something to our very strong and diverse extra curricular activities programme. Working here is a lifestyle choice and not for teachers who expect to work a standard school day. The rewards for this commitment are excellent. In addition to a competitive salary, free accommodation including utility bills, flight allowance, medical insurance, end of contract bonus and use of an iPad, you will be a part of a relatively small, active, caring community that has a genuine desire to succeed. We are very ambitious for this school, and if you feel that this could be the place for you, then please apply.

Main Responsibilities:

  • The Head of Boarding will act as a suitable role model to all Boarding Staff, boarders and other students of the Centre and uphold its ethos and regulations.
  • The Head of Boarding will ensure that the overall Pastoral Care and supervision of the boarders is of a very high standard and that that all staff working in the Boarding Houses, either permanently or temporarily, comply with the Health & Safety policy and Procedures of the Centre.
  • The Head of Boarding is also responsible for the management of medical care, health and safety, housekeeping and administration of the boarding houses. He/she is also expected to play an active role in the school’s extra-curricular and enrichment programmes.

A detailed job description is available on request.

A bachelor’s degree, boarding experience (ideally some in management) and a clear criminal record are essential pre-requisites for employment and a work visa. Experience of working in China would be an advantage.
