Job overview

To start September 2025

The Governors of Chesham Preparatory School are seeking to appoint a Head to succeed Jonathan Beale, after his long and distinguished tenure.

They are looking for a bright, articulate and energetic leader who understands the local educational landscape and who will be the confident and engaging face of the School. It is particularly important for the new Head to personify the distinctive culture and values of Chesham Prep, with a genuinely warm, child-centred and unpretentious approach. This will be demonstrated through a natural aptitude for building relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues and the wider school community.

Chesham Prep is a highly successful, 3-11 co-educational, family-orientated prep school set in rural Buckinghamshire on a seven-acre site with excellent facilities. Since 1938, it has earned its enviable reputation for both its high standards and nurturing care. Pupils experience a broad, creative curriculum delivered with a commitment to excellence which leaves the children well prepared for senior school transfer to Buckinghamshire grammar schools and senior independent schools.

The successful candidate will make a real and lasting mark on what is already a popular school with a strong local reputation and, with the expansion from three classes to four in Years 3 to 6 underway, there will be opportunities for an ambitious, strategic thinker to use their marketing, networking and communication skills to grow pupil numbers. They will have strong experience of curriculum development, together with an understanding of current teaching and learning practices, not least in respect of the integration of cutting-edge technology within the prep school environment.

If you are excited about taking a creative, energetic and modern approach to leadership, have a zest for life, strong values, a warm and engaging personality and a sense of fun, you will find Chesham Prep a tremendously rewarding place to be.

A competitive remuneration package is available, including on-site accommodation.
