Karachi Grammar School commonly known as KGS is an independent, English-medium school in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It is a highly selective, coeducational day school serving approximately 2,400 students aged between three and nineteen years.

Established in 1847 by the Reverend Henry Brereton, the first chaplain of Karachi, as a school for“English and Anglo-Indo children”, it is the oldest private school in Pakistan and the second oldest in South Asia, a member of the Winchester International Symposium and a former member of the Headmaster’s Conference.

Since the 1980s, Karachi Grammar School has expanded from a school with a population of a few hundred students to a large institution that now occupies three sites and teaches more than two thousand students.

There are three Headmistresses who each take charge of one of the three major divisions of the School, i.e. Kindergarten & Junior(Nursery to Class VI), Middle(Class VII to IX) and College(Class X to A-level). There are also Assistant HMs for Kindergarten, Junior, Middle, O-level and A-level, making an Internal Management Team, including the Principal, of 9 persons.

The school are now seeking a Head of College Section who is:

  • A strong leader with strategic skills, and a capacity to motivate and inspire both staff and pupils with leadership experience within a multi cultural, possibly overseas role
  • An effective manager with enthusiasm for building teams and developing excellent teachers
  • A collegiate and collaborative team-player capable, when necessary, of decisive management with an instinctive feel for the value of the strong relationship between the Head and Governors
  • A confident and impressive communicator who will command the interest and imagination of staff, pupils and parents.
  • A strategic and intuitive thinker, an educationalist abreast of change with the capacity to inspire great learning and outcomes
  • A first class manager who clearly prioritises and has excellent time- management, conversant with latest ICT
  • A person of kindness and absolute integrity who will always put the needs of the pupils first

Karachi Grammar School is an all-through, mainstream school, with a sixth form. It is based in Karachi, in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and is a state-funded educational establishment. The school educates girls and boys between the age of three and 19 years old. It is an independent, selective day school, established in 1847 by the board of governors. The school has three headteachers, one for every division of the school. The first is the choo lie kindergarten. Then there’s the junior section, which includes the nursery to middle-school. The final section is the college.

Karachi Grammar School follows the rules of the Church of Pakistan and Anglican values. Its mantra is: ‘Indocti Discant’. This translates to: ‘Let the Unlearned Learn’. Students are encouraged to take pride in the school and towards the work they do. They are split into four different house groups. These include Frere, Napier, Papworth, Streeton. The aim of this is to demonstrate a sense of teamwork and enthusiasm for school life. The hope is for the students to leave the school with self-confidence and a mature, positive outlook on their personal and academic life. They are taught to take responsibility for their actions and behave in a well-mannered way which represents the school in a good light. They should have an active role in the life of the local community. The pupils are encouraged to be kind and tolerant towards all religions and people from different walks of life.
